They forgot to mention T.O.'s other books in the series, Little T Learns Not to Take Too Many Pills, and Little T Learns How to Write a Children's Book Without a Co-Writer. O.J. Simpson has a new book coming out too: Little O Learns the Value of a Good Defense Attorney. "Remember, kids, if the glove don't fit . . . they must acquit! Let's all sing!"

Newest celebrity childrens' book author: Terrell Owens. Thoughts?
Ugh. What a travesty that TO's book will get all this attention, and yet large numbers of parents have never heard of Jane Yolen or any number of other great children's authors! (I'm still annoyed that her imprint was shut down, and that was years ago! :()

It will definitely sell. People around the country will buy it. People in Philly will buy it...to burn it.

I would guess that most of the book (if not all) was written by the listed co-author, Courtney Parker. Apparently, she went to college with him.

I'm hoping the trend fizzles soon, though *some* publishers will always take the lazy way out to make a buck. Publishing Owens is just another lame excuse for those publishers to get some free publicity.

Who is he?

The most hated man in Philadelphia this week. He's a football player for the Dallas Cowboys who use to play for the Eagles. Caused a big stink (understatement) and left for Dallas.

Put it this way, Football Jersey's usually cost about $100 and up. His Jersey costs $.81.

I don't fault anyone for wanting to write a book, even celebrities - but this trend of idolizing anyone in a jersey, or with their name up in lights makes me fume. I suppose though it's a reflection of the state of affairs in society today - people who make a genuine difference in the world are shuttled off to the side to make room for the beautiful, who can cry on cue, or sports stars who can catch a ball. We have our priorities seriously screwed up. The man is a football player and just because he IS childish doesn't mean that he should be given the opportunity to glorify bad behaviour to young children.

Btw It says he has a "co-author" which in my cynical opinion means he's just lending his name to it. The article also says it's the first in a series of 3. Perhaps this one will bomb so badly it won't be economically feasible to continue with it.

Oh a football player. That's why I never heard of him.

Went to college with him, or for him?

(Since I'm Mom I'll have to give myself a time out for my mean-spirited comment. I have to think of three ways to be nicer to Little T now. Any ideas folks?)

“Little T Learns to Share,” ..... The book is the first in T.O.’s Timeout Series. The second book, “Little T Learns What Not to Say,” is due in spring 2007, and the third, “Little T Learns To Say I’m Sorry,” is scheduled for release the following fall.
And I thought outright moralizing was a big no-no in children's publishing today. [/sarcasm]

Sigh. I hope the "co-writer" gets paid a lot of money for her book. I feel almost the same way about this as about the Madonna book. *sighs*

Sad to report that even Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market has crossed over to the Dark Side.

The 2005 edition featured a love letter to Madonna thinly disguised as a profile of illustrator Loren Long who, though already published, wasn't worth their attention until hooking up with Madge.

There was, of course, no mention of Madonna's condemnation of every children's book ever written as "vapid and vacant and empty."

Don't be surprised when celebrity authors start taking over CW&IM's "First Books" profiles. 'S only a matter of time.

As long as T.O. doesn't write Little T Learns to be a Team Player or Little T Learns How To Take Responsiblity and Not Blame Everyone Else.

I don't think that book will go over too well around my area...I'm in Philadelphia Eagles country. (In fact, I'm watching them play Dallas as I type)

I usually don't get upset when celebs write books, because that puts more money into publishers hands (and hopefully they will be more willing to take a chance on new writers--LIKE ME) and more people into bookstores and hopefully they buy 2 or 3 books.

But I don't like T.O.

I think you are mistaken. You have to PAY someone in Philly .81 to take one of his jerseys
