THOMASVILLE, Ga. — A bruised and battered south Georgia woman credits a wayward German shepherd with rescuing her after her car careened down an embankment, tossing her through the rear window and leaving her sprawled, cut and bleeding, on the vehicle's trunk.
Thirty-six-year-old Shannon Lorio said the dog, which has since been given the name "Hero," pulled her by her collar off the trunk and dragged her about 50 yards through briars to the edge of a highway and let her lean against him so that she could stand up and flag a passing motorist.
Officials of the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society, which runs the local animal shelter — now Hero's temporary home — were so impressed with the victim's account they have arranged to have Hero evaluated for search and rescue work.

They should have no trouble finding a wonderful home for the dog, assuming they don't end up keeping him for SAR work.

This was my first question!

Okay, I should have copied the rest of the article, Mac! She has 6 dogs, otherwise she would have taken him home

What's the difference between 6 and 7...I would make room for the dog that saved my life!

Heck, just reading the article made me tear up. I want to bring him home. I'm such a sucker for a German Shepherd...

The dog wasn't saving her - he was dragging her off to eat her.

Matt, I suppose next you'll tell us that when the little gophers run out on the highway to scrape up the remains of their little gopher friends, they're not bearing them off for an honorable burial...

Awww, I love German Shepherds. My Radar passed away last summer, and I miss him so much. I think I would have had to take him home, too.

Awww, that was a touching story, Jean Marie. We do have guardian angels and not always in human form...

What a beautiful Hero. I love those dogs. And he looks awfully filled out for a stray. I wonder if he's been homeless long?

Six dogs or no, if that dog saved my life, I'd kick the husband out of the bed to make room for that dog.
