Journal-Style Stories

I know a while back stories written in journal style were popular. I'm thinking mostly of the Dear America series and the Royal Diaries series. Do kids still read/enjoy these types of books? This question mostly goes to teachers and parents and any children that might happen to be on the forum.

They're still popular. There's one -- and the name escapes me, sorry -- that is told by letters between two friends. Another I think is told through chat rooms. One of my favorite books, "Life As We Knew It" is told through the MC's journal.

Same un-helpful but true advice applies here If it works, it works. If you think the story is best told in that format them tell it that way. I probably wouldn't do it "just to be different" but if the story sings to you in that format then I'd go with it.

I'm going to have to second that.

My sister (14yrs) still likes to read those, but her friend is sick of them. I think kids are still reading them and I think they still will. Plus, it always comes down to how you spin it and how well you write it.

My wife works in a public schools library and she has a lot of the Dear America series--they're really good, especially one (and I can't remember the name of it) but it's set in the early 19th century.

I've thought about writing a journal-type story but not sure

I really appreciate the advice, you all. *passes around rep points* I suppose I'll stick with the journal the format, which is the way I've been writing one of my current WIPs. (Or would it be WsIP?)
