Hi all! I have been lurking here for a while and signed up today. I need some help from you pros. I am a new writer and sent my manuscript off to an agent. She just emailed me, asking for a "publishing bio".
Someone please tell me what that includes. Is it everything I have published?
And...gulp....what if I don't have anything published???
This is my first novel! She said she liked it, but what if she learns I am unpublished...do you think that will affect her decision to represent me?

Well welcome!!!! Tell the truth--tell her your schooling--any credits along the way!!!
First time author--tell her so, tell where you live, education and if you have a second book you are working on--you may mention that!!!!

oh thanks!!

I will write about all that, but do u think it will affect her decision to represent me? I know some agents prefer published writers. When i queried her initially I mentioned that this was my first book. now, after reading my work, she asked me to "refresh her memory". I am so nervous I could eat dried seaweed!!

:welcome: to AW, avid-dreamer!

:Hug2: Take a deep breath and have a cookie. Don't worry. If your work is good, someone out there will snap it up. And from what I see, it looks like you have something good right there. You've already caught the attention of an agent. That's an accomplishment in itself. :D Remember, every published writer was an unpublished writer once.

Hello to you, Avid-Reader, and welcome to AW. Well, you certainly are lucky to attract an agent's interest with your first novel! Just tell her honestly that this is your first and perhaps you can add that you are working on a next novel (gee, that's being said already!) But never, ever lie about your credits. If you do, the truth will come out one day and then you're in deep trouble!

thaks a billion!

I really appreciate the advice you all have given me. I will be honest and she can either say yay or nay. A writer should be judged on the work they present and not the fact that they are a novice.
