I'm going to second the sentiment that the agent gave you a wealth of information ... which she did not have to do. She took time out of her schedule to give you this info, so she felt 1) you really needed to know, and (more importantly): 2) your writing was good enough to bother.

It doesn't mean you have to rewrite this one, but it is something to keep in mind as you write in the future. If you get this type of information from a second agent, then you should probably rewrite.

Sure sorry that happened with your manuscript, Shady, but editors usually don't take the time to let you know those things. She probably felt you have a lot of promise, so keep writing and sending out, k. Bet we'll all say in the not too distant future, "We knew you when..." :Hug2:

Of course I have a feeling most rejections are always followed by hoping anoher agent will like it. Like you weren't hoping already.

I'm with you and your husband. Everyone keeps bringing up that rejection for LHOD as though it somehow proves that agents and editors are, or can be, complete idiots. But all it really "proves" is that not everyone has the same tastes.

I don't think agents and editors are idiots at all. All it really says -- and all it's really meant to say -- is that good books get rejected too.

You just have to find the right place for the good book.

Hugs, shady. You are almost there, keep trying with your manuscript.

I think that Left Hand of Darkness is a work of genius. It is one of my favorite SF books of all times. That said, everything the agent says about it is true. Some people hate it for exactly the reasons the agent stated.

Certain rejections hinge on the agent's taste, not on the quality of the manuscript. If you feel there's nothing to improve in the MS quality-wise, send another bunch of queries today.
