I'm in a poetic mood again today. :) Here's one by Henry Vaughan:

The Dwelling Place

(John 1:38, 39)

What happy, secret fountain,
Fair shade, or mountain,
Whose undiscovered virgin glory
Boasts it this day, though not in story,
Was then thy dwelling? did some cloud
Fixed to a Tent, descend and shroud
My distressed Lord? or did a star
Beckoned by thee, though high and far
In sparkling smiles haste gladly down
To lodge light, and increase her own?
My dear, dear God! I do not know
What lodged thee then, nor where, nor how;
But I am sure, thou dost now come
Oft to a narrow, homely room,
Where thou too hast but the least part,
My God, I mean my sinful heart.

I was listening to this song yesterday and thought of this thread you created Pat. I think it speaks to just about everyone. If you're not familiar with the song - it's beautiful. When I searched for the words, I saw it has some links to listen online.

Cry Out To Jesus
Words by Mac Powell / Music by Third Day
To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
when you said goodbye
And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus
For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on
They lost all of their faith in love
They've done all they can to make it right again
Still it's not enough
For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you're not alone in your shame
And your suffering
When your lonely
And it feels like the whole world is falling on you
You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
To the widow who struggles with being alone
Wiping the tears from her eyes
For the children around the world without a home
Say a prayer tonight

Hi all,

This is a song I learned on retreat about 10 years or so ago. I love this song because it really describes what I feel when I ask God for help.

Hear my Cry, O Lord.

Hear my cry, O Lord attend unto my prayer
from the ends of the earth will I cry unto thee.

And when my heart is overwhelmed,
lead me to the rock, that is higher than I, that is higher than I.

For thou hast been a shelter unto me
And a strong pow'r from my enemy.

And when my heart is overwhelmed
lead me to the rock, that is higher than I, that is higher than I.
That is higher than I, that is higher than I.

For Kev...

This is for KCPotatohead—and anyone else struggling with a sense of God’s timing/working in your life:

26From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. (Acts 17:26)

3and at His appointed season he brought His word to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior (Titus 1:3)

Psalm 31

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and my body with grief.

14 But I trust in you, O LORD;
I say, "You are my God."
15 My times are in your hands;
deliver me from my enemies
and from those who pursue me.
16 Let your face shine on your servant;
save me in your unfailing love.
17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD,
for I have cried out to you;

19 How great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you,
which you bestow in the sight of men
on those who take refuge in you.

21 Praise be to the LORD,
for he showed his wonderful love to me
when I was in a besieged city.
22 In my alarm I said,
"I am cut off from your sight!"
Yet you heard my cry for mercy
when I called to you for help.
23 Love the LORD, all his saints!
The LORD preserves the faithful,
but the proud he pays back in full.
24 Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the LORD.

Thank you Pat for a "timely" reminder (nyuck, nyuck). Funny that so many of us are struggling with the same basic issue on waiting on His will and direction. (Simple Living, you still out there?)

God bless all of you!

From memory (sorry if its foggy) out of the living bible...

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you. They are for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.

Happy Easter!

Great verse, D.J.--thanks!

(Hi, Mark!)

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter week. Here's a favorite poem by a favorite poet to help you celebrate:

EASTER WINGS

Lord, who createdst man in wealth and store,
Though foolishly he lost the same,
Decaying more and more
Till he became
Most poor:
With Thee
O let me rise
As larks, harmoniously,
And sing this day Thy victories:
Then shall the fall further the flight in me.
My tender age in sorrow did begin:
And still with sicknesses and shame
Thou didst so punish sin,
That I became
Most thin.
With Thee
Let me combine,
And feel this day Thy victory;
For, if I imp my wing on Thine,
Affliction shall advance the flight in me.

1 "Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
hear me, that your soul may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.

(Isaiah 55:1-3, NIV)

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

(Psalm 34:8, NIV)

shh... I'm thinking...
My mom forwarded this to me the other day, and I just had to share it.

Even if we don't have a furry friend by our side, God is right there with us when we pray...

So this morning I was up at 6 to bake cupcakes for my daughter's birthday party at school, wrangle husband, daughter (who took the opportunity to accuse me of laziness!!!), and son into clothes, breakfast, and tooth-brushing, ice the cupcakes, try to figure out how to get said cupcakes etc to her school and get the younger one to the doctor's appt at the same time and then turn on email to see if one, even one of the people who was supposed to email me about this big shindig at my house next week-end had emailed me and... there was Pat's message. I sat down, read it, and thought, "Oh yeah. God. Why didn't I think of that?"

Took time to do a Bible study and guess what? Everyone got to where they were going and it's all good. God is in control.

Just wanted to share that. Thanks Pat, you made a big difference in my day.

heyjude, thanks for the feedback, :). I've only got one highschooler at home still, but I remember those birthday cupcake days, LOL!

So glad you found a little respite in Him this morning.

Pat, I hope you find this apropriate for this thread. If not, just delete it.
I don't know if this will work, but I copied and pasted this link. I've never posted a link on a board before. This is my cousin's church.
This is a sermon on the Easter story, but it is different in that it brings in points that help us forgive ourselves. None are perfect. Sometimes that can be the hardest thing for us to do, yet we need to do it to move on and feel uplifted.
I hope you enjoyed the part about the Easter basket he had growing up - I loved that memory. I felt uplifted after hearing it.

Donna, thanks so much for posting that link! I look forward to hearing the sermon. (I've passed that church many, many times; used to live just off Arapaho Rd.!)

Not forgiving self is every bit as destructive as not forgiving others. (At least this is what I've experienced.) It's strange--but it's the same 'coin' as refusing to forgive another (just the other side). It boils down to a pride issue, though that's not readily apparent at first. ("I alone am so uniquely unworthy, heinous, etc., that God's forgiveness could not apply to me.")

Oh thanks for building this house Pat. I'm currently not in church although I do attend the Bible study at my college once a week. I don't do well in traditional churches. I usually fall asleep or don't quite fit in.

So I'm glad this is here. It will tide me over until I'm able to find a home church. Thanks again.

Well, since I won't be heading to Taiwan, I might have a few moments to post here once in a while. :) So I will echo the previous post Pat. Thanks for putting the House of Hope and Faith for us to stop into. :)

God is good.. :) He has given me a job locally so I don't have to globe-trot to support my family.
:)

Mark, I'm so glad things are working out for you.

Hubby is getting two or three offers today, so we should have some good news soon too!

God is indeed good!

It's so much more complicated than I thought it would be. But he has three really great offers. One would require us to move somewhere we don't want to be (sound familiar?!) but is a ton of money. I think we're being tempted. :) Another will take a few weeks to get through the process--they want him to meet all the top people out at their HQ, etc.

It's a huge decision! And I'm trying to make decisions on where to send my daughter for kindergarten next year, so not knowing where we'll be is tough. But God is good and He will lead us!

Thanks for asking. I'll keep you posted!

The Reason We Be......

I ran across this today and found it to be really nice. It is a poem by Russell Kelfer. I hope he does not mind it being shared here. It should give everyone some food for thought.

(If there is a problem sharing this, then I ask the Mod to delete it.)

You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what He wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones He chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God's plan in mind,
And they bear the Master's seal.

No, that trauma you faced was not easy,
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into His likeness you'd grow.

You are who you are for a reason,
Youve been formed by the Master's rod.
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!
