Does anyone still sleep on waterbeds? Whatever happened to them?

I'm shocked. I don't think we have anything held together with duct tape. That cannot be right. There must be some on the dryer or something.

The semi-motionless were great. I don't sleep nearly as well on a pillow-top mattress. I once fell asleep with a half-full beer sitting on my lower chest. It was still there in the morning. Really. My wife is my witness.

I got rid of mine a few years ago, they are just too big. A good friend (a policeman) had one until he killed it a couple years ago. He was showing me his new Glock 40 and shot it dead. He was attempting to unload it at the time. I won't get into what he called the waterbed in reference to heavy-set women.

Waterbeds were great, except you could get bent. That'll kill the mood.

regarding Duct Tape -

It is used on NASA flights extensively, and is prescribed for use in case of acute psychosis....(to tie down the astronaut in case things get hinky)

When Jersey Guy and I were bed shopping, I tried one of those Tempurpedic mattresses...

It felt like I was lying on a bed of buttercream frosting.

Not to mention, I pictured myself rolling onto my tummy and suffocating myself as the mattress molded to my face. Not exactly conducive to pleasant dreams...



And as for Duct tape - everyone knows the saying "If you can't fix it... Duct it!" :D

I'm sure my husband thoroughly misses ours. He's had it since he was tiny. We enjoyed it. It was comfortable and there is nothing better than getting into an already warm bed on a cold night.

However, once I got pregnant, it was just too tall with the pedestal it had. I had a hard time getting it to it some nights before I had a giant belly.

It now resides disassembled in the garage.

Yeah, it would be hard to climb in or out of while pregnant.

I spent a month on the couch last year when I broke four ribs. A regular bed would have been much better for that.

Duct tape - I have pictures of two lady friends of mine, who made BEAUTIFUL dresses completely from Duct Tape.

Seriously.

And don't knock the Tempurpedic beds. They are AMAZING - all the comformation and 'support' of waterbeds - none of the motion. In fact, they ISOLATE motion - which is great if your bedmate is tossing and turning.

On the other hand - they do "Dampen" motion - more so than even a spring mattress. So it's not like you can count on any 'bounceback' to keep the rythm either -

So yeah - figure they are the polar opposite of waterbeds in that area.
