From the second and third chapter of my WIP

"All technology either comes from warfare or ends up used for it!"

"The people, without caring what they speak or if they don't speak at all or worship the Lord, the sun or the moon or write upside-down understand quite clearly two things [...points out his sword and a coin...] the rest are mere formalities, sir"

"Your mommy, your sister and you are the most important things in my life, sweety pie. But I am also a man at arms and I must make honor to the uniform I wear"

"Poor Pompeyo, you just don't promised the people the moon, but got killed on the way to get it"

"Thousand of people cried the death of Colonel Pompeyo Sucre Marat but no tear would fall for José Francisco Grajo having as final rest place the Caribbean Ocean"

I know... I am still a lousy writer :D

This is not what it seems at first glance.

The streetlights were a blur, a line of halos mocking the damned. She didn’t want to see, didn’t want to think. She couldn’t stop feeling. Her ribs ached a little, her wrists more. She shook her head, not wanting to catalog the other sensations. The scent of him was everywhere.

Ikarias 1--from an evil sorceress to an assassin named Aria whom she doesn't like much:

"Feeling a little warm, assassin? Balefire does that, bastes you from the inside out. You have a few minutes left to enjoy your peaches and cream complexion. I'd tell you more but it would ruin the surprise. Let's just say you'll provide a good reading light for centuries."

I absolute love this! Thank you for sharing!

Guisdalg the noble bandit vs. Monarch Aladnosthryx (Unedited, but enjoyed)

In a flash, the Monarch’s arm shot forward and swiftly tore Guisdalg’s sword away. As his right glove caught fire and disintegrated from around his black, scaly hand, Aladnosthryx hoisted the bandit high into the air by his wrist like a child, “What will you do now? Will you squirm helplessly before me, or find a way to carry on…by whatever means necessary? There is no one here to take the blow for you.” Helpless within the searing claw of the Monarch, Guisdalg looked across into his foe’s eyes and caught the out-of-place glimpse of hope that hid behind his red, sharp irises. Proving that he, too, was willing to suffer just as Ren’Hascior himself had, the bandit pulled a dagger from his belt and jammed it into his own wrist until falling free of the dark man’s clutches.

I know this is meant to be only one line but I just have to post this little speech in its entirety for full effect.
Background is my MC Toby is visiting his Mother in a psych hospital where she is in a catatonic state and has been for some time. Her nurse who has known Toby for a long while is trying to lift his spirits.

Claire hurried over to him, knelt by his side and put her hand on his knee. “I know you, Toby Manning. I’ve known you for a full ten years now. And one thing I’ve learned about you is you’re no quitter. You’ll never give up on your mom. Not when she needs you to be strong. To all intents and purposes, she’s still healthy. There is no reason to suppose she won’t make a full recovery. I dress and undress her, tend to all her needs. I sense that she’s grateful to me. Sometimes it seems that all that separates us is a single sheet of glass and if she could somehow break through that glass then she could make her way back to us. I’m sure she can hear us and I’m sure she can see us too. Her mind is just locked behind a closed door. All we need to find is the key to release her. I know you’ll find that key Toby, I just know it.”

"All technology either comes from warfare or ends up used for it!"

I really like that line because it is a philosophy that I totally agree with!

-----------------------------------
My own contributions:
-----------------------------------

Abby thought, "Someone should write him a reality check. Problem is, he'd refuse to cash it."

"The key to success on the Hill is the ability to absorb credit and deflect blame."

and finally, from a 100-word flasher,

The town's taxidermist had finally found the perfect trophy wife.

-----------------------------

Ya know, we should capture and compile these lines into some sort of mash-up tale. On another site there is a forum topic that has gone on for over 600 pages. One of the contributors has mashed it up into a new-ending one-act play. Very funny!

From my second novel, a historical set circa 200 B.C., a small army of men and dogs, early cousins of Great Danes, is off to hunt elephants in the Atlas mountains of North Africa.

"Before sunrise, eight handlers tied the eight strongest and most disciplined dogs to leashes held fast to the handlers’ waists. They ran them thrice round the elephant moat, jumped onto horses waiting at the head of the army, and let the dogs explode out of the camp up the trail into the mountains. These dogs had hunted many times before in this life and in thousands of years of the hunt bred into them."

This turned out kind of fun.
"Lester Feber, ye ale-sotted bugger,” a voice screeched from above. A scrawny, bird-faced woman peered from the overhanging second story of the building at the hulk laying supine in the dirt. Lolly saw the edge of a chamber pot appear at the window and ducked back against the wall as a spray of reeking urine fell on the stuporous man. He lifted his head, shook off the droplets like a wet dog, and squinted with one rheumy eye at the harpy above.
“Get yer arse up ‘ere, ye ruttish scut,” she shrieked down at him.

One line I'm kind of pleased with...given in context

Pale and wraith-like, swathed in veiling
wandering among the corpses
here and there a bone protrudes
Stooping low she spies a token
lifts it from a broken finger
lapis lazuli and gold
With a wail she rends the silence
hawk-like scream of anguished triumph
Adam molders with the dead
from my poem "Lillith"

I was really struggling this morning, barely adding 400 words to my WIP. Here's one line I might keep:

For all the world knew, Matthew Newman was most likely dead, or at the very least, had taken up residence on an uncharted island, both of which would have been true had they taken his previous lives into account.

From the current chapter I'm writing:

"Why you are so smart, but so... dumb?"

MC and her sister are looking for someone at a skanky club, and her sister wants to just run in real quick for a look without having to pay.

The bouncer was missing a neck and several teeth, and looked as if he could snap bones with his jaw.
“Gino, don’t you leave me here,” I hissed in her ear.
“That’s fine,” the big boy said, focusing back on me with a sneer. “Just hurry up. Be back in five.”
“Be back in one,” I said through clenched teeth. “T-Rex looks hungry and he’s starting to salivate.”

I just remembered another one. It's an opening line:

There's nothing worse than a guilty slut.

This little rant happens at the climax of my novel, wherein the MC (Myrddin) has just knocked the super-baddy down a few pegs. The supper-baddy just got the upper hand, and says this after he has smacked the MC around a bit:

"Look at me boy. Look at me!," he roared. "You - are - nothing. I have lived for countless eons, and will endure long after your body has fallen to dust and ash. I have might beyond reckoning, that you have never dreamed of, and will never know. My name will remain etched into the blood-drenched pages of history long after yours has faded to a dim, flickering memory!"

“Of what use is honor in a silent home? Who praises this honor I have in such abundance? Is there any in my home but ghosts and specters of a once happiness? So do not speak to me of honor!”

Regarding my MC's mother.

Matthew didn’t even need a visual to sense her presence. She was like a fog hanging in the air, with the familiar mixture of Chanel No. 5, Juicy Fruit, and vodka adding to the unmistakable aura that followed her everywhere.

Here's one.

My fridge only dreams of having real food in it. Sometimes I open it again and again to see if anything will magically appear. Like a fully cooked lasagna or a pot roast. Or a chocolate cake cloned from the DNA crumbs crammed in the side of the shelf. The only magic that ever happens in that fridge is the decomposing show that my leftovers frequently put on.
