I disagree. An identical twin is conceived naturally at the same time as it's twin from one egg that splits or two eggs that were released at the same time. A clone does not happen naturally and is no more than a copy of the original.
They say clones don't live as long too and they aren't as healthy.
Okay, my goal? 100 posts here a day. Realistic, no. Am I going to try damn hard to make it happen, though!? Probably also no.

You can disagree about whether or not we should have clones, HR, but I feel obligated to straighten out the science here. Have you seen the pictures of cloned puppies? Often they don’t look exactly like the original. That’s because genes don’t determine everything about us. We also have epigentics (whether or not a certain gene is turned on or off) and environmental factors like what our mother’s womb is like and how much pollution is in the air when we are conceived that contribute just as much. That’s why a clone could never be an exact copy of the original. Identical twins are identical because they have the same DNA. A clone is a new organism with the same DNA as the original. The only difference is the timing in when they are born.
The reason clones don’t live as long as non-clones is because they haven’t perfected the cloning and incubation techniques yet (it’s hypothesized – it could also have something to do with shortened telomeres, but there’s no evidence for that). Essentially, the DNA gets damaged in transit. As they improve cloning techniques, the average lifespan and health of clones will most likely increase.

I just want to say one more thing because I always have to say this during a cloning debate. If the clones aren't exact clones of the original, then what is the point? There are millions of unwanted animals all over the world that need homes and scientists are running around creating more just because they can?Okay, that's all I wanted to say

Um, cloning animals may be essentially useless, but furthering scientific knowledge and capabilities through research is NEVER useless. And what they're doing with pig hearts or whatever, that's definitely not useless. Stem cell research isn't useless. Immoral, you could argue, but not useless. It's like people who criticize the Space Programs, call them wasteful. Progression is never useless. Unwise? Arguable. Scary? Maybe. But never useless. IMO.

I'm (today, at least) making it my personal duty to spam this thread! Ha. Somehow, this relates to the topic of reproduction and playing God.
"Don't waste the sperm!" seems akin to posting every thought that comes into my head and making as many posts as possible. Are you guys feeling an underlying connection, there?

Okay, one more post because you asked for it (and it's a good question).
There’s not really much point in cloning animals right now – they are still working on the basic technology. The idea is that eventually they would be able to manipulate the DNA of cloned animals so that they would have desirable features, and then create large numbers of animals with those features (it wouldn't matter if some other things were different). Some possible examples are cows that release less methane or even the infamous pigs with human hearts (though not technically human - just closer to human cells) to create more potential donor organs. They are already doing it to an extent with plants (think of crops that are less susceptible for insects – a good thing all around because they cost less to grow and farmers don’t have to use as many harmful pesticides). Right now there are no guarantees that it will work as well in more complex organisms – but we will never know if we don’t try.

I wrote a letter of complaint about a sub to my Science teacher (she's basically the one in charge), gave it to her beginning of 6th period Friday. After school, she called me over, and asked if I wrote the letter myself.
I said yes.
She said I'm a great writer.
And she hugged me.
I'm still getting those compliment tingles in my stomach. Will post the letter below.

HR, do you like seatbelts? D'you think baby food is a good thing? The development of instant food, things like kool-aid? Satellite TV? Google Earth, GPS? Ear Thermometers? Fire fighters? Vision screening tests? MRIs? Smoke Detectors? Cordless tools? Thermal gloves, ski boots? Shock absorbing helmets? Joystick controllers?
I'll stop there. But the space program led to the development of a heck of a lot of stuff that we may not have today otherwise. Not to mention human curiosity. We have to know what's out there, we're an inquisitive bunch.

Let it be known that S.S. and I had not offended him in any way. We had not been yelling across the room. We had not been out of our seats. Or caused disruption in the class.
The only possible crime we had commited was to be born of Asian heritage. This statement was rude and upsetting. It may have been his twisted sense of humor, but it's not funny if you're cracking a joke at someone else's expense.
According to the first colored president of the United States, this is a time for change. When color codes are broken. It's the time when teachers serve as open-minded, well-educated, inspiring ROLE MODELS for children--not just white children or black children, but for all of them.
Mr. L---- does not fit that description.

I didn't say "Barack Obama", but stressed his skin color. You know, in case the person reading it was a Republican. And I love how I got to insult the sub indirectly with the well-educated part.
I'm gonna get his sorry Dixiecrat ass fired.
