Scared crapless!

Okay, so it's pretty well known that I hate earthquakes, right? Well, in the half hour I've been home, we've had seven. I kid you not. Seven. They're small, just rattling the windows and what not, but it's scary as hell. And they're happening right underneath me. Well, I think it's technically a teensy bit out in the ocean a town away from me, so very very close.

Make that eight.

This is just scaring the crap out of me. I've never experienced something like this. I used to think having one a day or two a day was bad, but this is insane (nine). There's almost certainly going to be a big one if this keeps up. Maybe not the big one, but I have no idea how big this fault produces.

I have a feeling I'm not going to sleep at all tonight. *insert scared smiley here*

Argh. We're up to at least twenty and I swear they're getting stronger/longer. Oh well. I can't really do anything about it. Prayers would be nice, though.

We just got hit by a 5. I'm hoping that's as big as it's going to get.

Does that work even if it's not in the same area? The news this morning said to expect more weak fives, and we've gotten two more already, though most of them are still small. My big fear is that it's going to trigger the big one, (which happens kind of far away) but I don't really know how it works in terms of proximity. It did trigger one more inland and that one was a lot farther away than I would have expected possible.

Hopefully they'll stop soon. We had over 60 last night, according to the news. At least none of them have been big, though, and there hasn't been much damage. It still makes me jump each time we have one, but if they don't get worse than this it'll be okay.

LOL. That's awesome backslashbaby. My hometown in America was surrounded (literally) by oil and gas refineries. We'd occasionally get a shake in the house, and we always knew there'd been another explosion up at Exxon or somewhere. Happened at least a couple of times a year.

Anyway, time for an update. So the scientists weighed in and said we can expect this to go on for probably around ten days, but that the biggest it will get is likely to be a five. We've had two 5.3s already, a couple of fours, but most of them are twos or threes. It's freaky, but I'm starting to get used to it.

We've had it trigger one earthquake a ways away, but hopefully nothing like that happens again (or at least not el big one). Otherwise, I think I can handle this. It's scary, but knowing they won't get bigger helps a lot. I'll have a hard time sleeping, and there are more fun and less scary ways I can think to spend my vacation time, but oh well.

Oh, funny story! So I can feel like every single tiny little doesn't even register as a 1 on the Richter scale earthquake. Crazy but true. I can even feel the little waves that you're not supposed to be able to feel before the big waves get to you (s-waves?). Well, I've told people this before, or I'll comment about there being an earthquake, and a lot of times I get this, "You must have imagined it" response because other people don't feel them. I think I'm hyper-sensitive because they scare me and I'd never lived around them before. In my book the ground is not supposed to move, so I tend to notice when it does.

Well, I was at school today and talking to one of the teachers and we had a couple of small ones and I said, "Man, I hate this!" He was commenting that he didn't even feel anything. Well, about two minutes later I feel another one, so I turn around and say, "See!?" Well, right after I said this it turned big and shook the whole building so everyone else felt it too. It was just kind of cool and proved that I'm not completely insane lol.

Aaaaand...we have a volcano! How cool is that? Turns out that there's a little underwater volcano off the coast that every so often erupts and creates a new island. So what's going on right now isn't a normal fault earthquake, but earthquakes associated with the volcanic activity while the new island is being born. Very nifty. I'm going to have to find out if you can actually see it because if so I want to go down and take some pictures.

Anyway (again with the caveat of as long as it doesn't make the big one happen) I'm feeling a lot better about it knowing that. They said not to expect above a five, and since we've already had a few I know that's okay. The constant shaking is still spooky, but for the most part I'm getting used to it. I think you're right, Regan. It's basically helping me get over the being really terrified and helping me get used to it again.

Hopefully I'll be able to sleep better tonight. They still have a tendency to wake me up, but at least now that I know what's going on rather than be terrified by it, I know what to expect, which is all it really takes to help me feel better.

LOL...this sounds like a very good way to hurt myself. And I'm pretty darn good at that as it is. I like jumping in elevators, though.
