THE 2006 REJECTION PLEDGE

I love this! I'm a failure at rejection, but I'm also a failure at acceptance. What can I do? Can I start a Limbo page, the most submissions from query to MS, without ever hearing back? Honestly, I've never been rejected, or accepted, and yes, I have sent query's, partials, bits and tidbits.

Will she call? Won't she? Will she like me? Won't she? Will he get a rose!

I got my first rejection slip of the year today - just moments after taking the pledge -- and it was a "nice" letter - they called it "an important story" and wished me luck with submitting elsewhere. (I guess they might always say things like this)

But either way, taking the pledge helped. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. I'm off to look for another publisher......

Awesome idea! I'm in! I'm going to double my rejections from last year. 16 here I come!!!

Just have to figure out how to connect it to my sig now.

I love this idea and am taking the pledge. Since PA, I haven't had the gall/talent/whatever to finish an article/book/whatever to submit. This year, I'm going to submit, darn it, and I will relish the rejections as they come in as victories!

No one is going to say it's "an important story", no matter how nice they are if they don't mean it at least a little bit. There are so many more innoccuous things they could say to be polite.

I call that rejection a triple win. 1. You submitted (YAY!); 2. You weren't ignored (double YAY!!); 3. You get to be the first to change your signature after taking the pledge (WHEEEE!!!!)

Alright, I'm in. I have to finish my WIP first, & edit both it & my NaNo novel, so I'll go w/ a modest 13 (my favorite number)

The good news is that I'm very competitive, so it will give me even more incentive to write/edit/submit!

OUCH!

An agent just rejected me a second time (the first rejection arrived 12/21) for a project I only submitted once.

I get it, "You don't like it. You really, really don't like it!"

At least it gives you an additional score for the challenge!

Oy! That is painful. But, on the upside, do you really want to work for an agent who's disorganized enough to do something like that? NEXT!

I'm new around here, but what the hell, I'll jump on in.

I got one rejection last year for my first novel, and I need to rework the synopsis and submit again. I've got a list of about 35 agents I want to send it to, so let's up it to 40.

Now I have to figure out how to encode the signature thingy...

Barb! What a great idea. I'm in... And I'll go with Mac and Sirensix on this one. Or maybe I should say 7 since I'm due in July? Nah. I had 15 last year, with a full time job and FT school. Cutting out work and only going PT to school should give me time for more submissions...

I'm sticking with 30!

I received my first rejection this year from ByLine Magazine. This sounds crazy, not that I love getting a rejection, but I love Marcia Preston even when she rejects my work. She's a very sweet person and always adds a handwritten note. Not too many editors show that type of warmth with a rejection.

I'll take the pledge...but I had to erase my previous signature to do it, so that was a big step for me...I got a lot of rep points because of that signature!

I racked up almost 40 rejections last year but I'm going for more quality submissions this year so I'm going to shoot for 25...
