“You wanna get inside, and close the door?”

“Do I have to let go of you?”

“Yeh, for a minute.”

“Then, no.”
I liked this, and thought of this thread immediately. This is the way the chapter ended this morning. I like happy endings.

These two are about to be blindsided by life, so this'll be the last happy part for a while.

Two signs hang above the unpainted sliding door:

Welcome Still Waters Campers!

and

Make Yourselves At Home, Camp Eagle Feather!

It strikes me as cruel that the deaf camp has the word “Still” in the title and the weight loss camp boasts the word "Feather."

Some people find it therapeutic to handwash dishes. The warm soapy water and the transition from dirty to clean--all that. I'm not one of those people. I feel strongly that dishwashers should experience that magic and provide us with the mystery.

from this morning...thought I'd share

From five minutes ago:

There's something about the smell of books -- old books, new books, thick books, thin books, tall books, short books, Asian-language books, English books. Books, books, books. I believe everything is all right again once I'm surrounded by shelves upon shelves of the printed words. Within these walls, and on every shelf, there are portals through which I could escape the harsh realities of the world outside. In the hushed dimness of the reading halls, there is a sense of calm satisfaction that no matter what happens, no matter how dire it is, there is somewhere a place for us (now I'm quoting West Side Story!).

I think you can read my mind, because this is exactly how I feel sometimes. Very nicely done.

She was going to have fun tonight, screwing Jonah Hunt in more ways than one.

I posted the whole thing earlier in SYW but I really love this one line. The woman is going to get revenge on an ex-lover that played with her emotions. You know what they say about payback.

From tonights dialogue.

You have to know Frankie. I hope I write him well.

From my story The Midnight Box,

She oozed in already knowing she owned the place and I was practically eating out of her shoe by the time she sat down and crossed her legs. I looked her up and down and then back down again. She reached across the desk and put a finger under my chin, dragging my gaze up.

Love that!!

The feeling was odd, like he had just walked in on his parents having sex only without the resulting loss of eyesight.

Love that too! LOL!

from the POV of the child in the current WIP

Won’t matter where I go, Jeremy thought. He can see me anyway. He was big enough to know that hiding under the blankets didn’t make the monsters go away. Not the real ones, anyway.

Two little bits I found while reading through my paranormal story. The MC is a vampire and the drunken fool wasn't alive much longer.

"I said hello!" he barked, breaking me from my reverie. He was pushing himself off the ground and trying to stand. He lost his balance and clung to a tree. After righting himself, he turned, staring at me with a half smile and a look in his eyes that did not please me.

"Well, are you going to just stand there, beautiful?" I smelt the alcohol on his breath. I felt my face twist at the smell; his words. I continued to stare at him, which sparked his impatience. His pathetic anger made his face flush with blood. Oh, how he damned himself.

From WIP, today:

Late afternoon, I stop by the market for an iced sugarcane juice and tropical fruits. It saddens me when I see the longans and lichees. My father loved them so much. Part of me wonders why I never saw him again, and hopes that I will; I'm right here, in Indochina. Part of me also rationalizes that he's likely to be back with my mother again, wherever they are. And that thought pleases me. I prefer that conclusion.

We're on the verge of another war, here. Korea was only a short hop away and we're already sending our men and women back to Asia, in a never-ending cycle of aggression and regression. Greenleaf's words rear their ugly heads again: "I don't think we can expect either side to be honorable." Those who believe wars are ever honorable and just will wake up soaking in the blood of a shocking revelation.

I'm up tonight and thrilled because the tone of a tough scene FINALLY came to me tonight and it wrote up well :D So it's very 1st draft, but a teeny snippet:

xxx xxx xxx "But he shot you!"

"I know, but that's not fair. I would have shot me, too."

Sarah wasn’t amazing to look at. She was realistic, so she knew that. She was good looking though, and her body was curvy in the right places. When she asked Kyle what he found sexy about her, he said, “Great ass. Great legs.”

In my first contemporary story, I chose to set it in familiar territory, northeast Ohio. I had fun making references to how crappy the water is in Lake Erie. Here are two of my favorites, both from the same novel.

From ch. 22:

From ch. 7:

came across this one doing some editing on the WIP:

She sighed. “You’re starting to make me wish for normal boyfriend issues.” She added a smile at the end to soften her words.

“I could be possessive, needy, and grabby. If that would help.”

The MC is a new vamp, as critical of her sire as he is of her.

I had to get Mr. GQ for a sire when I was so NOT Ms. Cosmopolitan. I followed him into the dreaded dressing room. The man had his own clothing boutique on site for his female progeny. Talk about your metrosexual man-whore.

About my kids and their "free range" attitude:

"My “benign neglect’ approach has been a good thing for my kids. Because of my hands off policy, my kids can catch a runaway hamster, swing a hammer, and cut their own meat."

P.S. These things are NOT related.

There's alot of talented writers in this group ;)

Here's a couple quotes from my WIP about Las Vegas:

"Love has no boundaries, even when it's found upside down on a pole."

"A tear ran down Charles’ leathery cheek as he reminisced about a Vegas long since lost. He saluted the moon with his scotch, took one last pull from the half empty glass, and then plummeted to his death."

Looking down at the rickety stairs makes me a little nauseous. The steps look out of place; if they were their own song, the song would be a slightly off key jazz tune set to a time signature of 5/4. On the sheet, several notes would be missing.
