That's a good question right now.
Meetings are always the last Monday of the month at 9PM Central, at least until
attendance seriously drops off, then I'll double-check everyone's schedules.

That makes the next one March 29th.

Short answer: No.

Unless I've been dating everything wrong today, today is the 10th. Everyone had until the 10th to let me know they were interested in being critiqued. Those who let me know will be assigned a month. I've got this all worked out in my head and have been meaning to e-mail and post, but every time I think about it, I either start working on a deadline or fall asleep.

Last Call

The following six people have expressed an interest in having their work critiqued:

One Writer
Ms. Jem
Calliopenjo
K. Taylor
Collectonian
EclipsesMuse

If anyone else is interested, please let me know now. This evening, I will be assigning not only March but as many future months as their are authors wanting critiques.

As always, you do not have to submit work to be critiqued in order to participate in the crit circle, but based on majority preference, tonight I will be assigning a spot to everyone who does want critiqued.

Copying from email per a request from Birol :)

Okay, gang. I know I changed things a bit since my last e-mail. Mostly, that was in response to the whole majority rule thing. Here's how things are going to work now:

1. Anyone who wants to be critiqued let me know by -- I'll extend it until 5PM Central tomorrow (Friday), but I can't push it much beyond that.
2. I will randomly assign everyone who wishes to be critiqued a date/month.
3. I will honor requests not to be assigned March, since that's right here, but beyond that...no guarantees who will receive which month.
4. If you are assigned a month, that is your month and you are responsible for it being covered. If something happens -- family emergency, you decide your entire manuscript is drek and ritualistically burn it on a sacrificial altar to the Greek muses, case of nerves, whatever -- it is your responsibility to trade with someone else and make certain the month is covered.
5. I will assign as many months as names are submitted. For example, right now, I have nine names, which will take us through November.
6. When we run out of assigned months, we can do this again or I can just start adding names on a first-come/first-serve basis as people feel ready. Your choice. Let me know.

Actually, the November thing leads to another question: Crit groups often go on hiatus during the holidays, because it becomes One More Thing to be dealt with amidst Thanksgiving (yes, I'm being US-centric), Christmas, families, shopping, etc., and the dates for November and December fall right into the middle of the hectic holiday travel time. For example, I already know I plan to be on the road the last Monday of December, which is the Monday between Christmas and New Year's, and the last Monday of November is the Monday after Thanksgiving. I'd like to suggest that we go ahead an plan now on taking November and December off, resuming our critiquing in January. We could still meet informally in November and December, but not critique. What do you think?

Also, could someone please copy and paste this e-mail to the Critique thread in Novels? My internet access is currently limited; AW is a blocked site from this particular connection and I really don't feel like using my cell phone to retype all of this. Please and thank you.

The names I have right now are:

One Writer
Ms. Jem
Calliopenjo
K. Taylor
Collectonian (not March)
EclipsesMuse
SaraP
Lute (not March)
MAP (not March)

I agree on taking November and December off. November, both for holidays and NaNo :p, and December for sure for the holidays.

I thought about adding my name into the mix, but I can't always be there to critique others for it, so decided not to as it wouldn't be fair.

Here, there, everywhere.
I'm good with all that, except maybe if my name comes up for March. Will all the name/month pairs be known in advance?

Nope. I'm going to keep it secret. :evil

What?

ETA: All right, all right. I'm teasing. Of course, I'll let everyone know. Tomorrow. After everyone who wants to be crit let's me know, after I've put in my writing time, and probably gone to the grocery.

I have 12 months worth of names so far. :scared:

If I hadn't said you guys could have until tomorrow evening, I'd go ahead and draw names now.

Okay, gang. Here it is. The list of who will be critted each month, beginning this month and going until the end of time. Well, we’re not scheduled quite that far out. Again, if something happens and you’re not able to cover your assigned month, please take the time to find someone else to take your slot. Also, if something happens and you permanently drop out of the crit group (not just not able to make it for a month or so), please let me know so we can fill your spot.

Without any further ado:

March 2010 – EclipsesMuse
April 2010 – One Writer
May 2010 – K. Taylor
June 2010 – Greg Kenny
July 2010 – Lute
August 2010 – Exir
September 2010 – Collectonian
October 2010 – KatieMac
November 2010 – Hiatus/Informal Meetings
December 2010 – Hiatus/Informal Meetings
January 2011 – MAP
February 2011 – Calliopenjo
March 2011 – SaraP

Thanks, One Writer, for the initial suggestion and everyone else for the feedback. In the long run, having all of this lined up will probably help things run much smoother.

Look, gang, this crit circle is to help you out. Submit what you most need help with when you're up. Beginnings, middles, endings. The story you were working on next year, the story you plan to work on next year, the thing that's making you pound your head against a brick wall now... Whatever. It's all good. Everyone will be more than happy to tear it apart and help you rebuild it.

I've also been alerted to the fact that I somehow lost the little slip of paper with Ms. Jem's name on it while I was doing the draw. This means the draw might, uh, be invalid. :chores

And here I'd just made the decision to redraw everything except March.

I'm confused. So you're going to re-make the list next month?
I may be going to Europe at the end of May (where 9pm central is 4am...)
