What on earth is speech to text software? Don't make me google it ... tell me in Very Short Words with no mention of interface. Because I really don't like the word interface.

Very simply, it is a program that takes your spoken word (from a microphone, of course) and then types what you speak. In short, dictation software.

Doc, I would have LOLed if you'd worked the word interface in there. 
For those of you who haven't been subject to my speech emails, it does stuff like type "Dave! I'm so excited for Jews! He got an ace in the west." instead of "Yay! I'm so excited for Jude! He got an A on his test." It's... a challenge to read emails from me, but apparently more amusing than sending them...

That sounds like when I text my kids off my phone with T9. I never bother to look what word actually comes out. Like I type "home" and it comes out "good." They eventually figured out mom-speak when she texts.

We used to collect some of Dragon's really weird things at work. One thing came out as 'his quintic stayed lustily' which I think was supposed to be 'it's going to stay blustery', and there are always lizard-like conditions over the Cairngorms. Some very rude ones as well that thankfully I caught before they went out as subtitles.
Funny!
Maybe we need to come up with a translation manual so the reader is both entertained and understands.
My September goals are to:
1) Write every day, at least 500 words, be they on a story, a blog post, a critique for another writer, or some combination thereof.
2) Write 15,000 words of fiction across at least four stories.
3) Take all of my August stories which have not yet gone through Beta/critique through Beta/critique and make appropriate revisions.
4) Stick to my planned Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday blogging schedule.
Oh, and not go crazy. That's on my to-do list, as well.

Hey Everyone! Sorry to see I'm not alone in having an unproductive August.
I've sort of been out of commission with back-to-school dominating both my work life and my home life. I had a strong writing block for about three weeks and only started writing again a week ago. In the meantime I read a few good ones, just recently started Shea's Keeper of the Dream. Reading it over my lunch breaks at work.
For September I'm going to do the assignments on my own M/T/S Boot Camp blog that I wrote in May. I know it's weird to follow your own blog, but I'm homeschooling and working at night and have to focus my writing time--and I know it's written in my style.

Sounds like great goals! That last one on the list is harder for some us
(talking about me lol)Still working on edits but am about halfway through JUSTIFIED at this point. Ironic, months ago I hated editing, now I'm enjoying it. I love polishing my MS.
Oddly enough, me too. In fact, I keep wanting to edit it over and over.
I finally decided to do a few small projects, a short story and a couple of novellas, so that I could get something done.
I typed up 3,000 words of handwritten scenes today. Will have to go back later to fill them in, but the typing is helping me get a sense of how far along I am and what order the scenes should go in (I haven't been writing them in order).
Maybe I'll get there sometime soon. I've always said that editing is my least favorite part of writing. That I'd much rather be composing. But making some adjustments to my most recent story tonight did feel rather... satisfying.
I've managed to knock out about a third of goal #1 (the 15,000 words of new fiction) this weekend. Need to spend more time going back to August's writing and doing that editing thing...

I got about 300 words today, not bad considering I've got my voice back and am expected to speak to hubby again.
Also, way way out of the blue this weekend I got a request for a full on the novel I have long since given up on. It feels nice!

I'm back in revising mode. I'm taking this week off from work, so my short-term goal is to get through this revision pass of "Shapes and Formalities". So far I've read through the current draft and identified some of the trouble areas, plus I think I have a way to tighten up the beginning. Getting out my standard revision tool now:

My little experiment didn't go well. I hand-wrote about 2 pages of outline-y type stuff and my wrist didn't work for the rest of the day. Plus I just can't get ahold of the new characters and what they're up to...

Ugh Jude! I feel so bad for you. I have that too (with all the typing and then when I fell on my wrists after roller skating a few years back I had it ever since) but not like you do. If I over do it I know and don't type for a couple days its fine. Except the grand child holding/carrying tends to kick it in.
No new words for me. Still going over page edits and fighting with MS Word styles thing as far as chapter heading on the first page going in the right spot after a page break. Errr.

Nothing last night, but I got a few bits of plot sorted on the rewrite. Just can't get a handle on that story any more though, I don't know what's wrong with it, it's just not gripping me and making me desperate to write it any more. It's become kind of an intellectual thing with no kind of passion in it, if that makes any sense. Hope it's just temporary because I did put a hell of a lot of work into that MS for it to be a total waste of time.
