Beth! How nice to hear from you! Yes, that is my memory also, I never won the BOC when you and Josh were around. :) (Which was, what, 8-9 years ago?!)

Here, entries are emailed to BOC participants, we don't post in open forum just in case there's material from current WIPs (which is usually the case).

Just asking, did you know there's a (private) IMPs II group on Facebook? Josh, BJ and most of the gang are there. JT also recently kicked off an IMPire blog site with info for writers.

-Derek

I don't have a Facebook account, but I'll check out the blog link.

I don't know that I have time for BOC right now (coming down to the wire on finishing the WIP), but I was hoping to peer over shoulders and observe. :)

Hi, Beth! :welcome:

You know, I'd seen you around AW, and for some reason associated you only with Forward Motion, and I thought I'd already said hi to you -- darn sieve-like brain!

Your brain is working fine. :D You did say "hi" -- a couple years ago when I showed up here. I disappeared, then came back in 2010 to research an agent (whom I signed with early in 2011) and started occasionally lurking, and then actually posting.

The current Admin is Snitchcat (whom you may recognise from FM!) :)

I've been gone from FM for so long that my memory is fuzzy on anyone I knew there. But I'm sure it will come back to me.

Will you be joining the critique circle? We meet once a month in the chat room, and crit anything up to around 5 K words. We're quite a quiet group, so if you'd like to submit something to be critted, a slot should become available for you very quickly. IOtrackers can give you all the info re how the crit circle works, if you're interested. :)

Thanks. I'll keep the crit group in mind. It might be hard to start in with one now, since I'm so close to the end, but maybe when I start the next WIP it will be good to have a regular group.

Hey, gang! I'm still in. :)

Hi Beth!

Talking of the BOC, this month's optional theme is 'Parallel Timelines'.

Background: the Western New Year is 1 January; this year's Chinese New Year is 21 January. I believe the Japanese New Year is also at the beginning of January. So, plenty of simultaneous new year celebrations.

If you decide to stick to the theme, you get an extra point.

I will also carry forward entries from December 2011, as well as their points if they adhered to December's theme.

Deadline for BOC entries: 15 January.

Email me at google, please. Thank-ee!

:)

Thanks. I'll probably sit this one out; I need to stay focused on the WIP. But what fun to know that I might be able to play in the future. :)

The entry fee is really quite reasonable, too! 50 percent discount for first-timers! Send payments to my PayPal account, please.

I will stay in.
I can't take part in chat because of the change to Sunday.
I will be in for BOC. However bear with me, life needs sorting out.

[Sing to "Humpty Dumpty" for full effect]

Bumpity Bumpity sat on the deadline,
Bumpity Bumpity had an opening,
And sent it to me,
And added the theme,
Starting the trend of submission again.

Hehehe. Deadline is 15 January, 23:59 GMT. You have time. :D

And so 15 January looms, inexorable and rather wet. :tongue

And there goes the deadline, zooming passed. How many entries? That would be telling. :tongue

Hehehe. There weren't enough entries this month to send out for comments. I'm going to reset the points for next month. Hopefully we'll get more then than for the holidays. :)

Btw, anyone in the hot seat for... Er wait, which month is the hot seat for?

Do we have any takers for the February hot seat? Anyone?

Short story? Flash fiction? First chapter of your novel? Hit us with it!

Just as an FYI and a heads-up: it's possible that I won't be able to lead the February crit chat (Feb 5th) as I will have two wisdom teeth removed on the 2nd. But in that highly unlikely case, I'll leave you in Derek and Sophia's capable but stern hands :D

Here's a brief run-down refresher of how the critique group works, for anyone who isn't sure.

The group meets in the AW crit chat room, usually on the first Sunday of the month at around 3pm GMT. (An IRC chat client is required. See the sticky info threads in AW Chat forum.)

A week or more before the meeting, the victim author whose turn it is to be critiqued sends their writing sample (up to 5K words) to the crit group adminperson (currently 10trackers) who distrubutes it via email to group members.

In the AW crit room meeting, we each post comments on the writing sample, taking turns, usually over two rounds so everyone gets a chance to have their say plus any second thoughts. The author also has the opportunity to ask for extra clarification and explain anything that's unclear. Critique comments take the form of 2 or 3 boiled-down paragraphs focusing on the most relevant points. The chat session lasts around an hour, but can run over if needed.

Afterwards, the group admin will email a transcript of the chat session to group members. Critters may send longer crit notes (if any) to the author via email.

Thanks for this, Derek! 10Trackers recommended this crit circle to me, and I was having a bit of trouble figuring all this out on my own. Very helpful! :)

Um, also: Hi everyone! :hi: You can call me Ande! I live in or around Cambridge, England and work in IT and write something like fantasy and have almost 2 cats. :) Nice to meet you!

This is something I would be interested in joining. I am in France and I am on the second/third draft of my first novel (fantasy YA). I have never been involved with chats before is there a email prompt to explain how to get into chat?
Regards
Jaymee

Thank you!

Possibly...

What does it mean if I do? Is this that hot seat thing that 10Trackers keeps talking about? :scared:

I've got two chapters of a potential book, if I can ever finish coming up with the plot, averaging at about 5k words each. The first chapter needs some work, though...

Oh, all right. You twisted my arm! What do I do? :)

You send 5000 words or less to me, and I send it out to the others.

Then you show up at the crit chat on Feb 5th, at 3pm GMT. :D

I'll pm you my e-mail address :)
