What scares you?

I can't believe no one has mentioned clowns! Am I alone in my clown-fearing?

And carnies.... but it's more carnivals than the carnies themselves. Although they have small hands and smell like cabbage.

Mr. King pretty much ruined clowns for me. When I was little I thought them silly, now they all seem sinister.

Although I did manage to watch all of The Exorcist after my 8 time, more or less.

There's no classic "boogeyman" that ever terrified me. Spiders always have and always will freak me out though. I can't explain it. I know the spiders I encounter can't hurt me. It's just this intense disgust.

As for actual monsters, The Ring really, seriously terrified me in a way nothing has before. It actually made me vary of televisions for a while. No other piece of fiction has had this effect on me.

As for what scares me more than anything: Lobotomies. Having your mind destroyed. Sweet God.

I have an actual, genuine phobia of Santa.

I don't know what it is about him that terrifies me, but he does.

I suspect he is partly responsible for why Captain Birdseye scares me too.

Because I live in teh country I also have this constant fear of looking up to see someone looking in through my window.

I'm the complete opposite. If I watch a horror movie, even a really creepy one like "The Exorcist," I'm fine.
But if I go outside after dark, or if I go into the bathroom when the lights are out, I'm chilled to the bone.

This is probably going to sound incredibly strange, but, here I go! It all started with one little nightmare, about rats running under my sheets. Now, I'm afraid to go out at night because I know there is an Opossum stalking the neighborhood. God, I hate that thing, please remove it!

I get all freaked out when people you know start morphing into evil monsters before your eyes. You can see it coming. Their eyes start to change first. You can see the little gleam back there in their pupils growing. Shudder.

Then there's snakes.

I was going to mention clowns. My son hated them from the time he was a baby. Not long ago, I was teasing him about how he'd reacted to a toy clown he had wayyyy back then. Now a big, strong man, he said: "Clowns are evil and everybody knows it."

Dolls.

When I was a kid, I was read this story about a doll. On the first day, the girl woke up and found the doll on the first step of her stairs. Each day, it'd be one step up, and slowly, day by day, edged to her bed. Wherever she put it, even outside, it'd still be one step closer. Then when it was on her bed, she could hear it telling her it was going to kill her. And then she started waking up and finding the doll had a knife.

So yeah, fun childhood stories and all.

Also, I think everyone runs up the stairs at night if they're the last up and the lights are off.
