To be serious (my pain med is to be taken every 12 hours and seems to last 10 1/2 -- I've a half hour to go and so am relatively lucid right now)...

Carleree, have you tried herbal tea designed for soothing sore throats? I've used one by Yogi called "Throat Comfort" and it works for me. Pain doesn't go away, but it does lessen. It doesn't taste bad at all (to my taste, at least). Hope you and your kids get feeling better soon.

I also hope my pain med lasts through the Caps game tonight. They really are stinking recently. Lost 5-0 Monday to the worst team in the conference, who were using their third string goalie. I watched a little, then turned off the TV. Seems Ovechkin can't play without Backstrom as his center -- and no one knows when the latter will recover from his concussion.

Yikes. My trilogy has the Caps being successful and the Nats being mediocre. By the time I get into full-bore querying, the reverse may be true.

Hathor,

I hope the pain subsides soon.

I'm not doing too badly on Advil. My throat isn't as bad as my daughters. She hasn't been able to talk for a while now. But she smiles lots and draws pretty pictures. I think I'll keep her :)

Oh, that's so sweet.

I took a pill, so I'm back in no-pain, foggy-brain land. I just spent way too much time looking up images of pharmaceutical plants. A beta was disturbed by the smokestacks I'd put on one in book two. Not a major plot point, but I'm anal. Looks like lots of places don't like taking pictures of their plants :Shrug:But I saw smokestacks on some plants and, heck, I'm writing about a plant in an imaginary country. This place can have a pharmaceutical plant that looks like one in China, right?

The beta also thought one lawyer in the book was too stupid. I think there are lawyers that stupid, but maybe I can finesse this, somehow. Unfortunately, this is a major plot point. If the lawyer is smart and dedicated, the entire story falls apart before it gets started. Maybe in my next lucid interval I can figure out a fix.

I must be healing. I was able to floss this morning without too much problem. Well, but for the flesh I was releasing. You see, I'm a vegetarian, so that stuff had to be me. Ew!

Sounds like this Dutch show recently where two chefs took turns excising their own flesh, preparing it and eating it.

Seriously. Enough.

I embarrassed myself at the gas station this morning. Now I have to find a new place to get gas for my van. Not pleased. So, to cheer myself up, I sent out 14 new queries. :)

How does one embarrass themselves so badly at a gas station that they cannot return?

And more importantly, which gas station, and do you think they might share their security footage with me?

You will tell us eventually, Carleree. You may as well 'fess up. Our imaginations are highly developed, being writers and all. What happened can't be as bad as what we might think up.

New queries are good.

I thought about telling you. I really did. But I'm going to let you imagine something better than what really happened instead. More fun for me that way.

I'll start with something not that creative, but entirely consistent with something I might do. You locked your keys in the van. Hilarity ensued.

Or you went without your wallet. Similar result.

You probably aren't feeling up to doing the whole drunken-dancing, nasty-rap-song-chanting thing you claimed you were going to do when you received that full request.

Getting sick or fainting are old standbys. I fainted once in the aisle of a 747. The flight crew kept questioning me to see if I were pregnant or on drugs, while everyone listened in. (No, I wasn't either one.) That was pretty embarassing.

See, confession is good for the soul, girl.

If we guess right, are you going to tell us?

Really, she was trying to hand out free dog cages to the other customers and freaking them out. The authorities were called.

Okay, you pack of weirdies, help me think!

I am having a very hard time "writing" this week with my kids home. Anyone else have this? I am always keeping part of my brain on our day, where they are, etc, and I can't write.

It's impossible. Kids have parental-attention radar. The moment you think about something other than them their ears perk up from the hypersonic signal and they rush you before you can develop a coherent thought.

Wow we're a busy board this week! Sickness, accidents, computer hackers/viruses, kids ruling the house and oh, the rejects. Reject from query and a contest.

That's a tough one. I don't have this problem anymore, but I can remember. You may need to simply accept that it is as it is.

Short of DVDs, video games, trips to the playground, or visits to friends, the cute little beasties demand attention.

You could try waking up an hour or two early (or staying up an hour or two later) to have uninterrupted time, if you're really motivated. Or keep a notebook handy during the day where you can jot ideas about plot, dialogue, and the like -- which can later be incorporated into actual writing when you are alone.

Can your husband be drafted into watching your kids at night, so you can write?
