I would just like to say that Panera is diss appointing me. I come here to hear really outrageous dialog (and usually it complies in spades) but today's offerings are about newspapers, hotels, and there's way more swearing than I'd like.

My subplot is getting in the way. It's necessary because it provides an extra dash of tension to the beginning and (more importantly) gives my detectives something to bloody do whilst the antagonist is getting ~~the shit kicked out of him~~ (sorry mama jude) a good sound beating, but I've gone from rainsoaked rooftop chases to chintzy soft furnishings and interviewing bereaved relatives (thread in story research looking for some answers, btw).

In the overall context of the novel I'm sure it'll be fine, but right now it's proving less urgent to write. Just gotta slog through it though.

Panera is a bread and coffee shop. I like to go there to write (er, or listen shamelessly to people's conversations). And they have some wonderful wonderful bread. Mmmm... Panera. Should have gotten a loaf of bread!

Doc! How's it going?

I was thinking of you during a conversation on FB (see, you need to be on FB) in which a friend was talking about T somethings and some other stuff about some things that you totally would have understood. I answered that I didn't like tea or pubs and you could practically hear him ::headdesk::. It was fun, but that conversation totally needed you.

So here is the latest on the cemetery. And there is some weird good karma going on through this whole thing.

What are the odds of:
1. Early on I actually found a survey map from 1822 of the property of the guy who first created the cemetery. Hence my ability to pinpoint its location exactly.
2. Tombstones are found from the cemetery in the lake outlet, 100 years after the fact, just last week.
3. This is my new one. In the 1980s, as I said before, two skulls were found when some utility line or other was being put in between the library and the property to the north. The newspaper printed a blub about it but not the photograph.

We put the word out for info and found the name of the guy, a local photographer. Unfortunately he died in 2008. We were told his family had pitched all his stuff when they sold the house. Guess what? NOT. A friend of mine bought the house when the guy died and is finally cleaning his attic. Sunday he pulls up to my house with a tote, "Thought your historian's office would like these." It's full of photographs. The name was familiar and I couldn't remember why as we research all kinds of people. Called my boss. The guy is the photographer who took the skulls photo!

I haven't looked at them all yet. Most appear from the late 70s but my friend did say he may have more stuff. Way cool. The timing is just astounding of these things appearing now when it's needed most. I hope I find that photo. If not, they are still great photos to add to our collection.

Morning! HS that is amazing! Old photos are like a treasure trove!

Doc I sympathise! A few weeks back I was sent to a school and was told I would be teaching English. Ended up with French, German and maths. I loath maths. Still, it was a test so did not test me too far!

We could do it inside the 500 words/day thread.

As I recall, it was basically honor system in our sigs anyway.

No special thread is particularly needed.

But as long as we're spit balling, we could break into 2-3 teams so that people who contribute 5-10k for the month are as important as people who write 12-15k.

I could even make the rules so mathematically confusing, by the end, no one would know who won. :evil

You do that by accepting percentages of words promised to have been written, based on what was actually written.

And blind teams! Yeah cool! You don't even know which side you're writing for.

Everybody walks away at the end confused and unfulfilled, except for me, because I pulled the wool over everyone's eyes.

Or I could dial it back a little... Whatever. :Shrug:

Well, it's kind of unofficial for everyone. It's not like we have trophies for the winner.

Mostly it was a good excuse for someone (Kaitie?) to make a histogram (bar graph) of our word counts.
