Query question

Maybe I couldn't find a post to answer this question. I am a looking to submit a screenplay to an agency. I was wondering if I should write query letter with SASE or is there another method to approch an agency? Also if they do look at query letters are there any examples out there I could look at?

Firstly, may I suggest you look at the extremely useful sticky at the top of the 'Scripts Stage and Screen' page which is full of wisdom when it comes to submitting stuff, and secondly I personally prefer to query via e-mail, and send the full (either electronically or via post) if any interest in the premise is shown. This saves lots of time, hassle and postage stamps.

That was a good read. I guess what I got from that is, it's better to look for a producer. Any listings available for them? I don't think you would look up a company like Zack Snyder's... Or maybe I should send him a Query letter. After all his company is in Pasadena. Any suggestions?

That was a great read, and very, very true. I'm a produced writer for TV and film, but in Hollywood speak i have one foot in the grave...too old. Over 50. Dead man walking. And I have a script out there with an A list star attached, a director who has worked with the star previously, and a production company and there is a very good chance that this movie will be made...and I still don't have an agent. I do, however, have a lawyer who is making the deal. But I haven't even looked for an agent, because I'm too old and they don't give a s**t about me, because they figure I'll be dead soon enough. And they're probably right! But keep writing, because you never know. And don't quit your day job. And by the way, there is an online submission place called INKTIPS. $50 every 3 or 4 months. Get the preferred letter and start submitting.

Thanks. I use Inktip already. I just recently found a listing that fit my script. Took forever for one to come up. I did submit my stuff. I guess we'll see what happens. I am thinking of submitting query letters to producers/writers.

I would not submit to writers. Producers, yes, but not writers. Writers have a hard enough time selling their own work. another idea is to make your script into a novel. If the novel sells you get attention. I don't know where you live but if you're going to write screenplays you need to live in Los Angeles, hang out with other writers, actors, meet people, etc.

dennis is right. I'm curious, if you can write both novels and screenplays, why not work your ass off to sell the film rights to your novels, and possibly lobby for the right to write the script as well? Or at least get the film rights to a novel sold, then try to launch your screenwriting career?
