Technorati is always a bit pissy and unreliable. It seems to update numbers when it feels like. Once it refused to update any of my posts for two weeks straight, and then *poof* they were there. I think the key is patience and not relying on it.
My current ranking: 18,849 (306 links from 125 blogs)
Technorati rankings can be deceiving. You can game your ranking by trading links, joining blogrings or blogger alliances, and participating in open trackback posts, but a well linked blog doesn't necessarily mean it is well read. My blog is currently ranked somewhere in the 37k range, but I still get a moderate amount of traffic/readers each day.
Yep, you're entirely right. Technorati doesn't include every link to your blog - it only includes sites that have already been recognized by Technorati. It's quite limited in that respect.
Technorati has some wonky stuff going on at the moment. The first four blogs it listed as linking to mine don't, in fact, link to mine, nor are they the type/content that actually likely ever would link to mine. And yes, I checked. No links to my site.
Mine is slowly sinking. It's a little depressing, but oh well: my traffic is on the up, so that makes me happy.
I know I could get a higher rank if I jumped on the blogroll bandwagon, but I don't know -- the whole idea of blogrolling seems a little disingenuous to me...
I have seen some more improvement in the rating: Rank: 138,460 (29 links from 21 blogs) Quid's doing pretty good! It dropped some more in just a couple days - Rank: 119,752 (34 links from 24 blogs)
