Ah, funness. The names they take references a lot to the group they faction with. The Camaraderie is the most likely to take super villain names, while people from the Community are likely to have European/American first names (though their last names are more likely to be Russian since they're in the Russian Community). As for the Coalition, they're from all over, so it varies.

There aren't really any distinctive names in my YA novel. It's set at an indeterminate point in the future so it's pretty much our world and I don't think names are going to change too much. I don't Ffur will suddenly leap to the top of the baby names list.

I started with vague ideas of what my characters would look like, used elouai dollmaker to solidify their appearances a little, then gave them names based on what I thought they looked like. Like my main character just looked like a David to me and only after I gave him that name did I think of the symbolic value of his name; in that he's a little guy up against some overwhelming forces. So far, the only characters who have surnames are deceased. I did that because I wanted to give a more universal feel to my book (besides it's post-apocalyptic, so few if any use surnames any more), but I'm wondering if that's something I should fix. Opinions?

But anyway, here are some of my characters' names.

I was sort of going for a weird not-quite-name vibe for my current work in progress. Like, things that could be names, but aren't. I ended up naming after last names and weird fusion names.

I always choose unusual or uncommon names in my stories. However, I sometimes just choose names that I like but have meaning for the characters.

In my Dystopian Adventure, the characters are:

Freesia

Gabe
Cordia

Arrow
Rudeus

With some of the names, it's obvious how much power they have but the names I pick normally have meanings behind them. Even though some names aren't that uncommon, I don't tend to choose names like Jane or Emily.
