This one's in the zygote stages (going to bash through 5 10K stories with these characters for NaNo). And it's a middle grade, so I let there be even more silly name jokes than I usually let myself get away with. Also, at least two of the above persons are imaginary and/or undead.

In general, yeah, I guess I'm a bit of a sucker for snowflake names. I try to hit the reasonable-but-memorable sweet spot (unless there's some specific reason to veer from either of those targets). I'm definitely a sucker for nicknames. I think because they often work as a springboard into the character's backstory. When you give them a nickname, you have to figure out who calls them that, why, since when, et cetera. Most of that doesn't reach the page in any direct sense, but it helps lay the foundation.

Also, I grew up around kids named Cedar and Yukon, so what do you expect?
