Just saw Pain & Gain. It certainly exceeded my expectations, which were very low. One of the funniest movies I've seen recently.
Also watched Intolerable Cruelty for the first time this weekend. Another good flick, although it kind of feels the same in a lot of ways as Burn After Reading, another Cohen Bros. movie.

Not a great flick, but it does have some inspired bits, and watching Kurt Russell do hisJohn Wayne impersonation is really funny.

Yes. Yes it is. Whenever I'm feeling low in the jug, this movie gets trotted out. After all this time, I still just love it to itty bitty pieces.
LIES!And seriously, that's why it's my comfort movie. I know it's not high cinema. I'm pretty sure I'm not gaining any IQ points watching it. But it's campy and fun and Jack Burton is just a scream.

Truth, totally the truth!
And I can understand why you like it so much. It's got a lot of inspired lunacy in it...probably why I like it as well. We all have to have our comfort movies/videos/whatever. Whenever I feel dragged out or just plain bad-tempered, I always end up watching a couple of Shoujo Jidai videos. Silly, right, but the vids make me feel better.

Well this week I went and saw Oblivion at the cinema, which is the Tom Cruise SF flick for those that don't know of it.
Mightily impressed, because it was so much better than my expectations. Nice performances too, and an interesting story.

Went and saw The Place Beyond The Pines.
I was a bit bummed at the death of one of the characters, but enjoyed the movie as a whole.

Treated myself to Day Watch, the sequel to the Russian Night Watch. Better special effects than the first, more unsettling, but very well acted and Moscow is fascinating. A very, very good film. I've heard they're going to do a third one, but no info as yet.

Dead Birds (Civil War-era deserters rob bank, hole up in a deserted house, supernatural stuff happens). Notable only for its Pumpkinhead plot ripoff and filming 85% of the movie in near-total darkness.

Saw "A Few Good Men" yesterday morning. Still a classic. It's all about the writing.
Also "The Place Beyond the Pines" last night, finally came out in my country. Extraordinary film, the structure is really original and outstanding. Great work by the cast too, loved it.
And just finished watching "A Royal Affair" since I missed it in cinema. I wasn't familiar with the story (I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the Danish royal family lol) but I absolutely loved it. I felt swept away by it. I'd say it's my favorite out of the three, but really good two days of films.

We watched Disney's Robin Hood (the one from the 70's) last night during our Mother's Day party. The 7 kids in the house ranged in age from 11 months to 11 years so we needed something that would interest them all. I'm not ashamed to admit that I can still quote some of the lines and can sing along to the song after all these years.
'Melancholia', the Lars Von Trier movie. Top banana. Very interesting portrayal of depression, and how no outside circumstance, no matter how good or bad, can affect a depressed person's mood.
Iron Man 3, which is almost as good as the hype would have you believe. Reason, character development happens, and it leaves things with open with the viewer by not answering all the questions.

Him and Iorek Byrnison (voiced by Ian McKellen) are the only reasons I watch the movie.
Well...and for glimpses of Daniel Craig. He doesn't have to act. Just stand there and talk. *breathes into a bag*

Where are the MST3K guys when you need them? Lee must've had a bill to pay. Good Heavens, what dreck.
Before that, Castle of Blood with Barbara Steele. Fun stuff, like all her movies. This one had a few extra dollops of sex. Everyone wanted into Steele's pants.
