Hi,
I'm new to the forum! My question is in regards to publishing. I want to start sending out my work to get published. When I submit a piece for publishing or the hopes of getting published what exactly do I need to include with my work? Is it necessary to send a query and a cover letter? What should be included in the query? Is there a website that gives tips on queries? Do I have to wait to get rejected by one publisher before I can submit my work to another, or can I submit the same work to multiple publishers? Is there anything else I need to know about what is envolved in the publishing process?

Thanks,
Heather

You can start here Heather

This is in the FAQ forum. Lot's more there involving much about writing and publishing.

Have fun on the forums!

PS - Check out the threads with the poster tack in them too, at the top of this forum. Good stuff there to get you up to speed.

Hi Heather - welcome to AW! There's a lot of info here. I'm sure you'll find the answers to your questions.

Hello Heather, and welcome to the Water Cooler.

Each house you submit to will have different guidelines to follow. So you will want to look up their submission guidelines in their FAQ section on their website.

Also, a good place to go to in order to find out what places are reputable and what places are not, would be the Bewares and Background Check forum. It is loaded with information on agents, publishers, and other writing-related companies, along with the pros and cons of each company.

Also, another place you could go would be the Ask the Editor and Ask the Agent sections near the bottom of the forums. They are good places to get valuable info on what legitimate editors and agents want, as well as how they operate.

Finally, I would recommend you look over the different Writing Studios, to see which one best fits what you write. I myself write Fantasy novels, so I like to visit the Writing Novels section often. Also, there is a section called Get With The Genre, in which the genre you work in and have a special love for, is dealt with in its own specific forum. My favorites are the Religious/Spiritual section, and the Science-Fiction/Fantasy section.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of success. Again, welcome to the Water Cooler.

:welcome:

have you gone to the bookstore or library and read some books? once you have something written, check out www.writersmarket.com to place it. the book has great basics on how publishing works.

Hiya, Heather, and welcome to the Cooler.

Come in and poke around--the answers to all those questions, and questions you've not even thought of yet, are answered, hereabouts.

Welcome, Heather! Don't let the wealth of information intimidate you. Poke around, read the Uncle Jim threads in the Novels forum, and jump on in and ask a question when you need to. :)
