I'm trying to come up with words, as the title says, that describes a child's walk.
I looked in the thesaurus and didn't come up with much. So far "pad" is all I have and it wouldn't really make sense in my context.

My 4-year-old walks on his toes all the time, so tippy-toe works for me! :)

I also like gambol.

Dance, prance, hop, skip, dragged his/her feet, scuffed along, shuffle, trip -- my kids never just walk; they're always doing at least one of these, usually more.

does anyone think "patter" works, or is it too close to raining?

Also, I like gambol, but I worry about it being too obscure.

somewhere, out there
There are so many, but I think choice would be determined by the circumstances.

If the child is heading for the principal's office, it's going to be totally different than if he's headed for a first-place prize for the spelling bee, for instance.

Maybe if you supplied the destination, more choices could be made available.

Just a suggestion.

It's actually for a statement of purpose I'm writing. The sentence is, "I find it amazing how quickly these children can word their way into your heart, and their need for an adult’s guidance in the world becomes apparent.

How about:

"I find it amazing how quickly these children can become resident within your heart, and their need for an adult’s guidance in the world becomes apparent." ?
