Kansas, no part of that sound enjoyable. My husband has family from Oklahoma--northeast corner, near nothing--so I feel your pain! No tv? Take lots of books!

No Thanksgiving here. Real Thanksgiving was a month ago ;) I did get to suffer through the in-laws today though. It's a little bit frustrating, sitting around while everyone speaks a language you don't understand.

13 hours to my half marathon! I'm excited :)

Everyone sort of gearing up for Thanksgiving? It seems to be topic of choice on other threads here on AW.

I just can't believe it is here already. Time has passed so quickly. :/

The end of the year always makes me a little sad, because it's over. Just - over and done. *sighs*

*closes eyes tight*
*covers ears with hands*
*sings "LALALALA I CAN'T HEEEEARRRR YOU!!!"*

Bishop! Congrats on the progress on your newest book! It sounds great. Keep writing, girl!

Parump! I'd be looking forward to Thanksgiving if I didn't have to spend it sequestered in my in-laws cracker-box house in Oklahoma (one step worse than Kansas). For five days, I'll be holed up, no cable TV (I know, right?), looking at my father-in-law grimace at me, wondering what kinda' fool his daughter married.

Thanks Kansas ;)

And ick, I'm sorry that's what you're looking forward to. I will also be at my inlaws' house, but they seem to like me a lot, their house is gorgeous, and their liquor cabinet is always full, lol!

Cheering you all on!
Re: Shutterfly for a storybook...just create each page as a .jpg image file. Should work just fine, right?

How is everyone? I just broke 24k words on my novel WIP last night! It's now longer than my novella, meaning it's officially the longest piece I've ever written :D
Woo! Keep going!

justbishop, is that the girlfriend does-little sis trouble with dad-boyfriend commits suicide story rewrite or is it a new project? I'm still working on the WIP I was meant to finish in April >.< Bad year.

Kensas, try make the best out of your thanksgiving nightmare, take your computer or stacks of writing pads with you, a trunkful of references (or better yet, but don't tell a soul, porn, lotz of 'em). And hopefully can get 20-40k words done.

Kewii, finish the run or you'll owe everyone here an iPad. (wishing)

Stiger, congratz... Wow. that's so cool. Toast!!!!! *Opens a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau and hopes Stiger will pay for it*

Holy crap, Stiger, what awesome news! :hooray:

And what a great story to hear for those of us revising. So often R&Rs end up being rejected (sometimes after another set of revisions, even), and it's so discouraging not to hear of the occasional success.

Smiley! Congrats my friend, for getting that far! I visit your blog on occasion, so I know you put the smile in "Smiley." I'm rootin' for ya. Your optimism is contagious (I know, I know, I'm a curmudgeon. Just don't let it out, 'kay?).

Stiger! STILL super-hyped for you! Your book must be awesome.

Bing! Where ya' been, my brother? KU's my alma-mater. The cheerleaders haven't escaped my mind. However. Still can't bring myself to trade in juvenile fantasies for...a sporting event. Just can't do it.

Congrats Smiley. When do we get our preview at SYW? I love seeing hot and/or intelligent girls cry.

Kansas: The last time I went to Continental Arena was before Kidd was let go from the then NJ Nets several years ago. Now that they've moved to Brooklyn (1½-2 hours away by train/subway), fuggetaboutit. I don't watch football except those legs. Ain't no fan of ice hockey. Dislike baseball. Fever for soccer and tennis is diminishing by the day. But still unable to get tired of hot athletes. I mean, like, who cares what's Ana Ivanovic's ranking is as long as you can stare at her <anything>????? How many girls who go to watch Rafa Nadal practice are there for his tennis skill vs those for his six pack????? Sports (candy) talks are fun, no matter what.

OTOH I think it's hard to be heavy on sports in YA books, a market dominated by female readers. A hot quarterback is fine. Home team beating rivalry while the MCs make out under the bleachers, absolutely. Talk about practices or tactical game plans more than a few paras and you don't have insider info to tell, it can be a hard sell.

Oh, no...revisions on that one are done and sent to the publisher. Haven't heard anything yet, but I'm crossing my fingers I have good news in my inbox ASAP.

I'm working on what should be a novel length YA PNR at the moment about the ghost of an 1890s French Union Army soldier who seduces the same girl over and over as she's reincarnated and convinces her to kill herself for him each time so that he can steal her life energy to remain in the spirit realm and avoid reincarnation, himself. Yeah, I know. If one suicide was hard to sell, I'm not sure what will happen with three, but this is the story, lol.

Incidentally, I broke 26k words on that one tonight, though :D

Also I FINISHED MY REWRITE!!!!! :snoopy: It's now with betas so hopefully they'll read and get back to me with more positives than negatives. :snoopy:

WOOHOOO!! Everyone is having such good stuff happen here lately. I love it!

Hey, I actually have a bonafide writing question for y'all.

What do you think about flashbacks? Pro or con? I love 'em personally, but a friend told me it can jar you right out of the here and now. But I can't imagine my books without them.

Sorry for the serious question. Next time I rear my bald head, I promise to be sarcastic and bitter.

And I'm STILL dreading Thanksgiving.
