When I was a kid they didn’t blare music during the Independence Day fireworks displays. I personally prefer the pops, whistles, booms, and crowd reaction. I think it started during the Bi-Centennial. (I was in Japan from 1975 to 1996, so I don't really know. I do know I don't like it.
