anybody catching this new show on AMC? w/bryan cranston (malcolm in the middle) playing a science teacher who teams up with a former student makes pure crystal meth.

it's like a male version of weeds only more intense and no comic relief. i love it.

I love that show. It's dark and funny and the guy's dilemma about how to kill the hostage druglord in the basement was heartbreaking. And then the reveal about who the guy in the basement really was ... amazing.

Very gripping series.

Sorry to resuscitate an old thread, but better than starting a new one. I hear the show is really good. I tried watching a couple of episodes on Netflix. There's too much vomiting for my taste. When does the vomiting stop? In season 2? Towards the end of season 1? I'm trying to gauge where I should start watching.

The puking is from Walt's chemo, right? That stops pretty early on. Man up, son! You can handle some simulated regurgitation.

I remember not getting into it for the first few episodes, but it's seriously one of the best tv dramas I've ever watched. Sometimes you want to punch the main characters, and I wish Skylar would just be eaten by a pack of hyenas... but it gets really good. imho. A couple of boring subplots here and there, but they're forgivable.

You should probably find episode summaries for the ones you're skipping. Even though we watch them all, we sometimes have to remind each other what's going on.

Spoiler:

Anyone else shocked at what became of Mike?

End spoiler.

Maryn, I was so pissed off. I kept thinking, If Walt does what I think he is going to do, I will stop watching this show. I will stop watching this show, and I will mail the writers a cat turd.

Then he did it.

Then I cussed a bit and went to bed.

And I'll still keep watching, because I'm this show's little b-word.

But, yeah. I was shocked.

Spoilery:

Mike was one of my favorite characters. I said all through the last season, I don't care who bites it at this point, as long as it's not him.

End spoilery.

I agree that you should read up on what happens in the episodes you're missing. I'm not sure when all the vomitting stops, except that it's mainly confined to Season 1. I think DarthPanda is right. There were, however, a few fairly gruesome scenes that kept me up at night. (I'm very sensitive though.)

I've seen the first three seasons. I can understand why people like this show and I can appreciate that it's very well done, but it's not my thing. Only watching it because my boyfriend likes it.

I watched the first three episodes before I posted. I couldn't take the vomiting any more, but like the story. The gruesome scenes have me a bit worried. I'll fast forward through those. I tried fast forwarding through the vomit scenes but I still felt nauseous. LOL As you can see, I'm sensitive as well!

I'll read the episode summaries. I'm sure Wikipedia has them. Thanks for the heads up!

I tried the first couple episodes on Netflix, and didn't exactly get hooked. Tried again a few months ago, and it stuck - went through all available seasons in quick succession.

Love the show, but I don't have the patience to wait between the live episodes.

This is a great show. If you watch all of it it shows how slippery a slope things can be. Also it really shows you the cost of the drug war.

I started watching a few weeks ago. I'm almost done with season 2. And I spoiled myself for the rest of show.

Damn, this is a sad. It's like misery porn. I keep hoping something good will happen to Jesse and Walter but things keep going down and down.

As I live in ABQ, the references to stuff in the area are a bit annoying, though.

Well, I read that 'Jesse' won an Emmy last night. Doesn't that put a little spring in your step?

We've watched this from the beginning, and rewatched it during the most recent hiatus, before the season which just ended started airing. (Did that make sense?)

We agree it's both depressing and dramatically exciting to see the characters who started out being ordinary people--flawed, but basically good enough--making one immoral decision after another, until they're decidedly bad people who present as if they're good. That's some fine scriptwriting in there, that we still care what becomes of them.

Misery porn's a good way of putting it.

This is exactly what happened to my husband and me. Not sure why we couldn't get into at first, but once we were into it, we were doomed. This show rocks some serious shit. The seasons are way too short, though.

yeah, very risky approach. it's about the GRADUAL moral disintegration of Walt, and that's what gives it its power.

only a state broadcaster or a subscription company like HBO could take that kind of risk.

(please don't mention Lost to me, that was a vacuous scam from beginning to end, not a slow burner)

Oh, man I resurrected this thread and have lost interest in the show! Now everyone is convincing me to give it another shot.

Oh, do it! You won't be sorry. I really do think the writing is first-rate. It has to be, to keep me involved with characters I can no longer respect--although saying why would be spoiling.

Agreed. Not only is the writing phenomenal - the characters' growth and/or destruction moves along at a steady pace, not too fast that it's unbelievable and not so slow that it drags, but the acting is fantastic.

not too fast that it's unbelievable

In the first episode of season two he (attempts to?) rapes his pregnant wife and I thought that came out of nowhere. Too fast for me. So I stopped watching, but I will give it another go.

I love this show. I rented all of the seasons recently and watched them all within a month.

I like the fact that Walt has turned into a sociopath...or maybe he was one all along and this finally brought his dark side out.

Much darker and much better then Weeds (which has gotten kind of stupid).

The lesson is...meth is f***ing scary.

I loved the episode with Marie stealing the spoon at the open house. Hilarious, and I love her husband Hank. He's one of my favorites on the show. (I haven't seen the newest season yet since I have to wait for them to come out on DVD)
