How could anyone name their pet "Peanut Wigglebutt?" How do you say that name in front of houseguests?

We named our cats simple and dignified names: Max, Gus, Sebastian. (Sebastian came pre-named. If it were up to me, I would have named him Sam.)

We used to have a cat named Friend Lee.
The lady I got her from told me she was the friendliest one of the litter.

I had a cat named Dave and my friend had one (recently deceased) named Bob. RIP, Bob.

My housemate in university had a friend with a dog named Dildo (I think I talked about him on this site before). My dogs are Chloe and Teddy Bear (the "bear" is optional). Our hamster is Button (because he's cute as a...well, you know).

My ILs have a dog they named Scooter, which I think is a terribly bad and unfortunate name.

One of my friends had a cat named David Litterman.

Mr Rima, a huge Chicago Cubs fan, wanted to name our dog after a player. I vetoed DeRosa and Theriot and Fukudome, which sounds to me like a Japanese porn flick. She now goes by Cubby, which is uninspired but easy to say.

When I was a kid, we had a boxer named Fitzsimmons (shortened to Fitz) and a beagle named Caesar (I don't know why his name was Caesar) - and one time, my cousin and a girlfriend of his were over at the house. This was her first time meeting all of us (poor girl) and of course, she met the dogs as well.

Well, when she heard their names, she got all offended and said, "That's terrible! How could you do that?"

I swear to God, I'm not making this up - she honestly thought we'd named the family pets Fits and Seizures.

Of course, this is the same girl who called my cousin up one day, all excited because she finished her cereal and milk at the same time - so you can imagine she wasn't exactly a rocket scientist...

That is too funny, Jersey.

My cat is Amber Belle.
When she urinates outside the litter box she's Amber smell.
And because she likes to lay on her back and show her belly, she's also, well, Belly and any variation there of:
Belly fish
Belly roll
Sometimes she's Mrs. Spinelli.
Or Shmiga.
But mostly she's Amber.

Still can't be my friend's bil's cat: Poops In Tub.

That's just hard to beat for odd pet name (but truth in advertising).

When I was little, we had a Pekinese named Kim - who was a boy. My father knew that, too, when he named the dog. he always got mad when other people didn't "get" it.

I once had a hamster named Hamlet whose various offspring were named Falstaff (big, fat, sweet boy hamster,) Prince Hal, Mfwany, Ameila, and Princess Tiger Lily. I also had another hammie named Gigabyte, inspired by the amount of storage space in his cheeks. Then there was Harvey the Wonder Hamster, who earned his name after surviving a very nasty bout of wet tail - at three and a half weeks old.

As for the birdies - my first budgie was named Opal, and the little boy I bought as her intended mate (she never took to him) was named Richard, after a guy in a band I really liked. Then there was my beloved gray cheek Jade, who I lost to liver failure when she was only three years old. . Right now the crew includes Freddie, the little diva budgie, named after Freddie Mercury when I thought she was a he, Woodstock, another bright yellow budgie named for her inability to fly upright when she was a baby, Baby, the little blue boy budgie I got as a little baby and never got around to calling anything else, Bonnie the sun conure, whose name was picked at random from a list of hurricane names (which fits this bird, believe me....) Dharma, aka Mr. Grumpy Pants, my Indian ringneck and resident curmedgoen, Belle, my lady cockatiel, Junebug, my loveably neurotic gray cheek (who I quite seriously think has OCD) and Joey, the new baby, a little boy cockatiel named after Joey Ramone.

Oh yeah, there's also Pagey, my five-year-old and mostly blind betta and Tangerine the goldfish, who's turning out to be more of a grapefruit....

Shitty Kitty...okay, it's Mammoth, but after 18 years, he's morphed into: Shitty Kitty.

(his head was too big when he took his first wobbly steps & would fall over...even after several weeks, his head made him tumble sideways...fits right in with the rest of us )

I also had a hamster named Hamlet. And a dog named Bear. And a cat named Edmond.

My daughter named her gerbils Tiger and Eddie. Eddie is still Eddie, though we found out she's actually an Edwina. And because of that, we have three more gerbils - Scooter, Frick and Frack (they're almost identical, while Scooter's pure black). And I will take the credit blame for their names. I just started calling them Scooter, Frick and Frack and it kind of stuck...

But, I named my kids better. I swear...

When I was very young, we got a little black cat and named him Frosty. It never occurred to either me or my sister that calling a black cat "Frosty" was technically incorrect. It was only many years later that someone said "Shouldn't Frosty be the name of a white cat?" And I had no idea why. To me, Frosty has always been the black cat I grew up with. He was the greatest cat in the world, super friendly and smart. He was later replaced by Shadow, who was in every sense, exactly like Frosty. I believe they both lived to 17 or 18.

Our last cat, Casey, was nicknamed Spawn by Jersey Guy. Spawn was evil to everyone - 'cept me. Maybe because I didn't call her Spawn...

Both my dogs have come pre-named. Kane was just Kane. The breeder liked plain and simple names. Rocky is Rocky because his registered name is "Eye of the Tiger".

A friend of mine had a cat named Steve, which was odd.

Our pets have fairly normal names, but they've got nicknames based on their bad habits: poo-foot, panty-eater, and the family bitch (who, it turns out, is the cat).

Prof. Blabbity is on a distinguished road
There was a professor in our department who named his cat D.C. for domesticated cat. Academics have such a strange sense of humor.

Previous cat names
I had a maine coone named Mr. Fluffernutters... which was even funnier after I had him fixed.
then there was Ebenezer sneezer... he was a grump with allergies..
Had twin black cats that I named Oingo and Boingo (I was the only one who could tell them apart)
Paddington Marmalade.. yeah he was orange and white
Christmas Eve.. which was when I found her under my mom's car soaking wet (I was like 7 which is my only defense)
