The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings

Here's a gameplay trailer.

-Non-liner RPG gameplay baby!
-And the combat just looks sick.

I looking forward to this one. The first part was awesome. You could clearly see how much passion the developing team had for this project.
I can't wait to see how they put the additional resources to work in part 2.

But: I hate the new Gerald look. Especially the hair.

The hair does kind of throw you off. But I don't think it's necessarily a bad look for him.

Geralt never looked good enough for how much poon he gets, if you ask me.

Maybe it's his sparkling personality.

A second one? I thought the first one was a stretch, considering it was a direct sequel to a novel where, y'know, Geralt DIED.

He did survived the first game tough. Wandered off into the sunset. Got a gay hairstyle and botched plastic surgery. Came back for a second game.
Have I mentioned that I really don't like his new look? He looks like a stoneaged cross-dresser with this ponytailthingy.

The new look is actually closer to Polk's rendition of Geralt in the comic book adaptations, which are the closest thing to a "definitive" look for Sapkowski's world and characters. I don't recall, for some reason, how often Geralt wore a pony tale in the books.

Hands-on with a succubus.

It's not a tenth as dirty as it sounds.
Quote:
I can’t wait for Dragon Age II. I’m really looking forward to The Old Republic. But really, it’s The Witcher 2 that has me most excited. Even if it simply repeats what the first game did in a more polished form, it’ll be good. And even an hour with it makes it obvious that CD Projekt has much higher ambitions than that. I want a world that embraces its shades of grey, and that understands that ‘mature’ can be a compliment, not simply a content warning. Everything I’ve seen of it suggests it’s going to be very special indeed. I really hope so. I want it to be a game I love, and a game I can recommend to friends without adding ‘after the first few hours’.

All the signs seem favourable. My fingers are crossed. Roll on the full adventure…

I'm so glad they're using something so much better than the old graphics engine. There's only so much BioWare hand flick and weird hair a girl can take, if you know what I mean.

So wait...the series ends with Geralt kicking the bucket. I can't decide whether to be sad or completely unsurprised.

There's a DRM-free edition of the game on GoG.
I don't get it. Not just why it's on GoG so soon, but why have a DRM-free version?

GoG's DRM-free stance seems to be ideological, mainly, and a way to compete with other download platforms. (CD Projekt own GoG as far as I can tell.)

Started playing it last night. God it's pretty. My rig can't quite cope with Ultra without turning into a slideshow but on High it's delightful. It's pretty damn hard so far but I am getting the sense that I'm really going to enjoy this one.

Because DRM doesn't work and they probably doubled their pre-orders by releasing without it?

The DRM-infected version of the game was apparently cracked and up on pirate sites before the DRM-free version was available, so the DRM provided no benefit and the lack of DRM was the reason why I bought it now rather than wait for a year to buy it cheap.

I've been playing it.

Basically, it's everything DA2 wasn't: A sequel that refines and improves on the original formula, without losing what made the first one special.

Also, the inclusion of full frontal nudity makes me smile

The only thing I don't like, like honestly and truly don't like, is that you have to meditate to drink potions, which means combats that are ambushes will have you fighting at 1/2 your capacity...

Ambushes happening when you're not at your best? Shocking...
:P
Seriously though, isn't that kind of the point of an ambush? To catch you unprepared?

I've been watching an lp of it and it looks amazing. I also have to give major props to the company behind the game, since they're making all dlc content for it free.

I'm giving them props for doing the exact opposite of Dragon Age 2.

Instead of taking things out, they added things in. And it's awesome.

This game is so much better than the first game it blows my mind. And I fucking loved the first game.

Bioware, better pay attention. This is how you do morally ambiguous, epic fantasy RPGs. Just saying.
