When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman
So talking animals are aimed more for young children (although unlike many older children and teens, I wouldn't mind reading about talking animals, even interacting with humans. If there were a new book about talking animals, I would so buy it. I sort of missed that.). Well I was reading in Entertainment weekly that in this "adult" book, When God was a Rabbit, the rabbit sometimes talked to Elly. Although it doesn't seem to be a big part. It's more about coming of age (and other topics I can't remember at the top of my head). It doesn't seem to be a hard sell at all. Amazon.co.uk received 59 reviews from customers.

The hard sell part of talking animals is to the publisher. It doesn't mean it won't become a bestseller once it's published. If anything, the difficulty in getting past the publisher stage is likely to mean higher quality in the talking animal stories that do get through. (I'm talking about publishers with limited acceptances, not vanity or self-publishing)
...but you really need to let this go. You're completely one-track on the talking animal issue, to the point that you're not considering anything else people tell you. This won't help you improve or sell a book. Focus on reading and writing. Take part in discussions here on other topics. All worrying about talking animals is doing is distracting you from things that will help you improve.

I read the title and thought, "Well, that would explain Easter Eggs."

And I would add, buy the book. If the book has caught your attention and interest, and it is something you think you'd like to do (or are doing), buy the book! Read it! See what the author does and how he does it. What techniques did he use and how did he approach the subject?
I would think his book is less about a talking animal, and more about the main character's interaction with God and/or his religious beliefs. But that's just my take on it. When intrigued with something (and you definitely are intrigued with this idea), research it. Find out about it. Read that book. |
