Absolutely FRUSTRATING!!!

I just spent the last 45 minutes composing a long, carefully thought-out post regarding publishing my work as an e-book - with marketing and publicity plans in case other people might be interested - and discovered to my horror that somehow, I'd been logged out of the site without my knowledge or any kind of warning.

Of course I only found out AFTER I'd pressed the PREVIEW button and was told to log-in. The original posting page where I'd typed everything was no longer recoverable so that every word I'd typed was irrevocably lost.

My sympathies. I've learned the hard way to copy and save posts of anything more than a few sentences before pressing any buttons...

Oh, been there, and felt like smashing the computer to bits. Yep, I feel your pain.

When I do remember, I highlight the post mid-way through, copy it and paste it into notepad. This way if I accidently delete it (or I get signed out like you were) I still have some of it.

We've all done it at some time or the other. I generally do it when I accidentally hit the wrong key. Some times you can back up and retrieve something, but often you can't.

In the future, if you do make a long post, try to remember to do an Edit > Copy before you click anything else. You don't have to actually paste it anywhere.

Or compose in Notepad. Yep, done that... and I've hit -backarrow- instead of -return- many times, which ones to the same thing. Commiserations, Winston!

I chalk it up to a sacrifice to the Muses.

The same thing almost happened to me today. Luckily, when I went to post the page came up saying I was logged out and I quickly hit the back arrow to go back to my post and was able to copy it before I logged back in.

Yep--back arrow soon enough, an the post is usually still there for copying and saving, to repost after you've signed in.

I agree, though, it's frustrating to lose any writing on which you spent the time to get it just right. I usually temper that with, I hope that's the worst thing that happens to me today.

Make this a muscle memory when composing on ANY message board:

Control-A. Control-C.

I do it before I hit any submit/preview button. It's saved me lots of heartache.

Writing is rewriting. The second effort will be better anyway.

I thought it was just a glitch in the service on my end. Anyway, I am going to compose the whole post again on WORD and then just cooy and paste.
