Favorite Worldly Posession

My other favorite possession is a large oil painting that hangs in our bedroom. It was painted by a great and extremely talented friend of ours while I sat in her studio drinking apricot beer, before M and I were married, before we had kids and I was still able to sit around watching art happen. My husband located the painting, many years after it had left her hands and presented to me as a birthday gift. Every morning I see it and every morning it makes me happy.

Ooh. Now. Oooh. I'd be bereft without the lap-top, but at a pinch (and bankruptcy) it's replaceable and I've backed up the files.

But my collection of Edwardian postcards, with all the intriguing messages on the back from people long gone...My 1840s bible, with the family's births and deaths recorded on the flypage...My tattered copy of 'Salem's Lot' that my friend, Emma, who died just after we left school, scribbled my name on...not replaceable.
