Masters of Science Fiction on ABC (SPOILERS)

Apparently there are four episodes of this mini-series, which is introduced by Steven Hawking, has actual stars, or at least people I have seen in other things, and are apparently based on stories by well-known science fiction writers. I've seen the first two episodes: SPOILER ALERT. There really aren't any spoilers, 'cause if you have every read any science fiction, or seen any of the old science fiction/fantasy TV anthologies, you've seen this all before. The first one: anti-war, bad president won't back down, nuclear holocaust, handful of survivors. The second one: anti-war, angels/aliens come to give us message, stop war, or else; all world leaders turn on each other, then realize 'We Are All One' . Nothing that wasn't done by Rod Sterling 30 years ago. (Or, for those who prefer movies, 'Day the Earth Stood Still'. Aside from the mild pleasure of seeing the 'Cigarette-Smoking Man' from 'X-Files' play the President of the United States, why did they bother?
