I go by the name Mana usually (but, that name was taken, so I picked the first phrase off the top of my head).
I am only fifteen but I've been writing since elementary school (I've improved alot since then thank goodness). At first, I wrote fanfiction, but, now I'm more in to writing my own original romance.
On another site, people didn't like the idea for a story I was planning ("write about what you know!" and so on), but, I've always written stories about people different for me (for example, they're always male, older than me, and living in a different country).
I have a few novels in progress right now (about five I think), but, my problem is that I've never finished one. I get alot of really interesting ideas, but, they never really go anywhere. These five I hope to finish eventually!!!

things about me:
I never have female characters. The only time I had a main female character was in two stories in elementary school. After that, I never had anymore.

I like to use Japanese emoticons (I have an interest in Japanese culture and I've been studying the language for about...seven years now, I think. I don't feel like counting it.)

Yes, I like Japanese culture, but that doesn't mean I'm a raging anime fan. I enjoy anime, but, it's not my life.

My stories always take place in either New York, California, England, or somewhere in Japan.

I'm really shy about sharing my work on the internet (I'm fine with friends, because, they like the kind of things I write)

I write realistic fiction, so I've decided to venture out and write a fantasy novel. I've never done this before so.........

Alright, I guess that's it.
I hope that I will enjoy it here.

Hi, MilkChan! Welcome to the Cooler.

If we only wrote about what we know first-hand, literature would be full of very boring autobiographies, and not much else. But if you'd like some advice (and this from someone who's only a little further along the path than you seem to be), take one of those five novels you're writing, concentrate on it, and finish it!

I learned a lot just from finishing my first novel. True, it wasn't the best, and I'm bogged down in the rewrite, but if I'd stopped in the middle and started another, I don't think I would have learned half as much as I did...

Hoping this make sense, and again, welcome!

Thank you (^_^)v
I should probably just concetrate on one at a time. But my friends are always demanding different ones! ("Hey, did you continue the story with the British people?" "What about Orochimaru??? -cry-")
I'm going to concentrate on that fantasy novel for now, then, since it's something new for me.

Go for it, MilkChan! The fact that your friends want you to read your stories is a great incentive, but don't let them rule the process.

Welcome! Enjoy your stay. You'll definitely find others who share your interests - those other than writing, of course - and who will be happy to help you any way they can. ^^

Don't worry, I started writing when I was around 15 and it's only taken me 30 years to finally finish one.

I'm fifteen, too. I started out writing fanfiction, and what do you know? Now I have a completed novel on my hands!

Good Luck!

Go for it!

Don't worry so much about general writing advice. "Write what you know" is a limiting doctrine, and we fantasy writers sneer menacingly at limitation. (Or at least this one does. Of course, I practice my menacing sneer upwards of four hours a day, so . . .)

Take what pleases you and leave the rest.

Hey MilkChan123 (Mana)

Welcome to AW.

I'm in full agreement with Yeshanu. Although I haven't been writing for anywhere near as long as most here (I've only been at this for around 8 months - serious writing for 8 months) Splitting your focus too far becomes deterimental. Narrowing it to much isn't good either as that opens you up to the dreaded writers block.

Keep a couple of things on the burners and rotate between them, but don't keep adding things or you'll never finish anything.

Above all else - keep writing and keep enjoying it.

Welcome Milkchan. I was writing at your age too, but didn't do anything seriously until recently. I think you will like it here at AW. It is a great place to pick up all sorts of pointers to help you along the way. At your age, I was not fortunate enough to have all this at my fingertips, so you are more the luckier to be able to talk with other writers. Still, don't forget to be young and enjoy all your friends and social activities.

Best wishes! mel

Welcome Mana and best wishes here at AW! You'll find there are quite a few other young writers around here, myself included. Don't let anybody tell you what you can and can't write, and above all have fun!

Good luck on finishing one of your novels, I find myself unable to concentrate on just one most of the time as well.

Hello there,

Welcome. Great to see you here. Hope you get motivated now to start on one of those novels and write, write, write till you get to the end. Have fun with it, too - and don't worry too much about the critics till you're at the editing point.

Good luck
