What made you want to write for children?

All is well.
It is true that I don't have my own kids and am not a parent, but I did in fact spend the first 4 years of life with the children of my dearest friends.
Although I was "Uncle Elliot" I was with them practically every single day.
The books I've conceived were written partly because of the time I spent with Ashleigh, Logan and Gracie Jean.
Here's a nice story - When I left Australia, Logan was not speaking.
When I returned home recently, the first word he said to me was "Boxhead" (the name of one of the characters).
How wonderful, huh?

You may have noted in another thread that I've had a nibble, which is very exciting.
I always knew someone would "get" these books of mine eventually...

They say to write the story you want to read. I wanted to read about what life would be like if griffins and dragons lived among us in the present day, but were smart enough to realize that monster-movie behavior means a movie monster's fate. Lousy novel for adults, but might work as a children's book.

It's a great idea - from the looks of it you went ahead and did it, yes?

Indeed.

I know this is a little late, but I think its such a fun question!
I decided to write for children for a few reasons:
I never grew up.
Children have better imaginations.
Children will brave much more dangerous adventures than adults.

My reason for writing for children?

I was one only a few years ago.

I have two nephews, 10 and 13, and a niece coming up behind them. I've always wanted to write something for them, that appealed to them.

for my kids

The main reason I am writing for children's is to entertain my kids and inspire them to love books as much as I do. Also, I am a child at heart. I love the magic that can only be found in children's literature.

I started writing adult fiction years ago, but after my son was born I would tell him bedtime stories while I was tucking him in at night. After a while I would forget certain points so I just found it easier to write them down as the ideas came to me. Not long after, I discovered I had written a couple of kids books Seems to be a pretty good fit so now I write both - adult and children's. My son is quite the artist these days and has just illustrated one of my picture books for me, so now it's a family affair.
