May 26, 2008 -- Japan has solved its transit budget woes - it has a 9-year-old cat "working" as a stationmaster.
Tama wears a conductor's uniform as she patrols the Kishi Station for the Wakayama Electric Railway.
"Tama is the only stationmaster, as we have to reduce personnel costs," said company spokeswoman Keiko Yamaki.
