A Contest That Might Interest You!

Hello Science Fiction/Fantasy Forum-goers!

I recently joined this website called Writer's Cafe which is a really interesting, fun writing community. You can get a lot of encouragement from fellow writers there as well as some insightful advice and critique on any work you may post. It has been enjoyable to say the least

I noticed that members could create contests for the community to enter. Being sick of stumbling upon heaps of romance genre contests, I thought I would make one that is a bit different and decided I would extend my invitation for you all to join if you would like. Yes, you have to sign up at Writer's Cafe and get an account, but I think it's worth it. I'm having a wonderful time there so you should definitely check it out if you haven't already. As to why I'm posting this here, I have a friend on AW who recommended I let everyone on this forum know so I hope I'm not overstepping or sounding spam-ish!

The theme of my contest is: The Machine. Basically, the goal is to write a piece (poetry, story, screen play, etc) that revolves around any kind of machine. It could be a machine that we all use today and consider mundane, or a machine that you yourself have created. I want to see creativity here! (Also looking for steampunk, but it's not necessary. Just loved!) The prize isn't much; an in depth review/critique of the winning entry + another piece of work from the winning person's collection, as well as a badge on your Writer's Cafe profile for being a contest winner. But mostly, I just want to read a bunch of pieces about machines.

So all of you can see why the theme of this contest highly adheres to science fiction/fantasy writers. Bear in mind that it doesn't have to be science fiction, but it's the target audience I thought of when creating the contest in the first place. I will be picking the top five entries and then the community of Writer's Cafe will place you. As of now, the deadline is July 1, however, I may extend it is requested to do so.

Oh no no, I didn't mean to steal members or anything. I love it here at the Water Cooler and I visit both sites all the time. In fact, I definitely prefer this place for serious critique and advice. Writer's Cafe is just for fun, really. And it's not 'my' site at all. I just came upon it recently. Sorry, I didn't mean to make it like I wanted everyone to leave here or what have you. I can remove it if you would rather me.
