Perfume and tools

Code:
She hated woman who wore so much perfume you could track them
through a swamp without using dogs.

Code:
Heroine to Hero - "Why don't you come over here and
show me all your tools."

Code:
God never promised us that life would be easy, or fair, or even nice.
He did give us each other, he gave us love, and he promised that he
would be here to help us when times are bad.
I see lots of bad in this job, Cindy,
lots of hardship and lots of hurt.
I also see courage, faith, and love.
For me, knowing God is there and waiting for me helps.
This tragedy will haunt us for a long time.
That’s life though, take the bad, put it away as best you can and live the good.

My sincere apologies to all the romance writers out there. Honestly, I have nothing but the utmost respect for your craft.

...Women want you to believe that you’re defective in some way, that there are lots of guys out there who are sensitive, caring, and morally conscious, just not you.”

“And there aren’t?”

“Fuck no. Don’t beat yourself up about it. I think they get that shit from romance novels.”

From my WIP Blackbird:

"This can't be too hard. I was as limber as a kitten," she continued to tell Hamlet, "though I never could get my leg over my head." Illustrating her point, Ophelia squatted on the floor then plopped to the ground. Bending at the hips, she pulled one leg towards her body, wishing she had changed out of jeans first but not ready to give in to age or gravity. Hamlet cocked his head at the woman and rose, ambling over to snuff her ear as she batted him away.
"Go on with you, you silly thing. This is yoga. It's very relaxing," she panted.
Cheating by bending her head forward, Ophelia drug her foot up and nearly over her...chest. "Good gravy, either my boobs have gotten bigger or I've lost my touch."
"It has to be the boobs, your foot didn't have a chance."
With a yelp, Ophelia rolled over to face Samuel as his body filled the front doorway.

Currently? Walks over to check address book...Mar
From my current WIP:

The worst part of the morning began with the discovery that Jim Conner was hiding an adult magazine in his textbook. As she reached over to grab it in an effort to make an example of his inappropriate behavior, the magazine fell open on the floor, displaying the centerfold of a swimsuit model for the entire class to see. “Is that you, Ms. Donnerly?” a voice quipped from the back of the room.

Hamlet as Shakespeare should have written it! :D

A two letter exchange between a pair of old friends. (Make sure to read the second one.)

Dearest Iliar,
I hear you’ve come upon hard times. Times of change are often such, but I have faith, as I know you do, that the Parliament’s direction and the wisdom of His Worship The Patriarch will prevail. I’ve been given the honor of serving at the heart of our renewed efforts at expansion into the Great Northern Forest and the Domestication of its Savage Peoples, and there is little that would give me such pleasure as to see you, old friend, once more before I depart to do my duty for god and country.
With heartfelt Sincerity,
Lord General Ezal of Jiln

Dearest Ezal,
I hear you’re in the hospital. I wish I could say I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m not. After years and years The Great Holy Father up there in the sky finally heard my prayer – and the Pompous Prick didn’t even see fit to answer it properly. Guess even god can do a half-assed job. Right about now, I’m sure you’re sick with worry for my safety. I assure you that with the Censorship Committee on strike (the Emperor paid them better) I’m quite safe to say whatever the hell I please, and oh, my good friend, it has been a long time in coming. So speak freely about what exactly you want me to do, and I’ll speak just as freely about how much it’ll cost you.
Your Reluctant Acquaintance,
Sir Iliar of Danis

This has been a fun post to read through! Here's mine, from a short story I've been working on -- a minor celebrity is found murdered:
"All her 'Today' bookings belonged to yesterday now."

Had my power go out for a full 24 hours. Man that sucked. Here's from this morning:
Another thing they both commented on when viewing the sun rising on the first morning of their trip was the color of the sky. Not pink or gray as one would expect, depending on the weather, more like the color of a potato buried in lime Jello.

“Come on, Granddad, don’t you like adventure?” He pointed to where the land and sky pressed together and put his other arm around his grandfather. “Look there! Ever wonder what’s past the horizon? Ever yearn to see what’s just out of sight or grab what’s just out of reach?”
“No, but if I did, I’m sure I could do it a lot faster in an airplane.”

Grandson and grandfather as grandson tries to explain why he is driving cross-country instead of taking a plane to college.

‘Thinking outside the box is a dangerous advice. There are boxes within boxes. If you think outside the innermost box, you are creative. Go any further and you are an eccentric, someone who causes a certain discomfort. Break out of all boxes and you are a sociopath.’

Been a few days since I posted. Therefore, I've got more than a few lines. Here's one. There'll be more.

“It’s a special wax they just come out with,” the man said rubbing his shiny baldhead with pride. “Makes it smooth as a baby’s butt. I’ve got five coats of the stuff on there. Drives the ladies crazy.”

“Wow,” Matthew was at a loss. He could give a shit about how or why anyone would work so hard on polishing the skin stretched across their skull. “You’re just like one big ass candle.”

Something I just wrote today. From the opening chapter of Psychic Witness:

“Yeah well it’s going to be raining on me very soon. Unless you happen to have a spare umbrella I can borrow?” She looked at him hopefully.
Barry shook his head. “Sorry darling, I don’t have a spare.” He grinned. “Still, it could be worse.”
“Are you kidding me? How?”
“It could be ME having to go out in that without an umbrella.” He chuckled.

And her response to that:

Susan rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, very droll. You should be on stage in the theater up the road. I hear they’re looking for a new cleaner!”

And from just a little later in the same chapter:

A car pulled up outside, its headlights raking the bar. She looked up. Her ride was here. Her ride in every sense of the word, she thought wickedly.

He looked at me like I was crazy. I looked at him like he was right.

From an old MS, Ace Killroy (detective/hired gun) tracking down the man who killed his friend. He's talking to a bartender on another planet, (as I recall) he stabbed the uncooperative bartender's hand and is now asking for the money out of the register -- the owner is a crook and he's going to wire the money to the bartender's family.

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but a lot of the ones I've seen have been really good.

‘Thinking outside the box is a dangerous advice. There are boxes within boxes. If you think outside the innermost box, you are creative. Go any further and you are an eccentric, someone who causes a certain discomfort. Break out of all boxes and you are a sociopath.’

I really like this.

Anyway, I'm not sure what my favorite line of my own is, but I recently wrote this sentence and really like it:

It had always unnerved me how little I remembered of my early childhood, but I always supposed that this lack of memory was normal or concluded simply that nothing worth remembering had happened until that day, but there would be times that I would sense something—a pair of sapphires upon my mother’s jewelry drawer or perhaps a trace of sandalwood in the air—and I would feel jolted out of present time and into a past that I didn’t remember, a past that clenched my heart with power and desperation as if these things that awakened my senses were crying out to me: “Remember! Remember!"

Great line. You need to publish this MS if you haven't yet. Rococo Fox, I'm really happy you liked my line.

Mad Queen,

Thanks! Unfortunately 90% of it is dribble and slop and 10% of it is good quotes...

It needs a good rewrite but I've been busy with another MS recently. Your encouragement does make me anxious to put it on the not-so-back-burner, though.

Here we see what a slob our hero, Greg has truly become when he's about to throw away a pizza box delivered the day before:

Opening it he discovered one leftover slice, now cold and hard, stuck to the box in dried puddles of melted cheese. Shrugging, he ripped out the cold pizza taking a thin layer of cardboard with it. Oh, well, he thought and bit into the day-old Italian delight. He closed his eyes and relished the flavor. Mmmm, it still tasted awesome.

This one made me laugh today. Really a good example of the rambles of my brain.

"I felt that she knew. And I couldn’t bring myself to look at her for fear she’d know that I know what she knew and that I know what I’m not supposed to know and then the Secret Service would morph out of the trees and snatch me up and put me in a room and interrogate me till I broke. Okay, my brain had me a little over-the-top paranoid."
