My Insanities are their dillusions
They called me 'Insane,'
but I knew my name was Dizzy,
I was born on a door step,
and my mother's name was Gladyce,
She fed me goat's milk,
and swattled me in cobalt silk.
They called her 'Insane,'
but I knew her name was mama.
She was smarter than any lawyer or dahli-lama,
and when she laughed the crows flew away,
I miss her songs, and the idiosyncracies of her life.
I was her daughter, she was never a wife,
only a mother who listened for the men to pay her a bill.
They called me 'Insane' when I sang her songs at midnight,
with nothing on my body, but much on my soul.
Who are they to call me 'Insane?'
They were not born on a door step,
they did not walk in her shoes,
Ha, she had no shoes, just a big old heart,
that made every day an adventure,
nothing more, nothing less.
My life, what a mess,
but I have my insanity now,
and they cannot take that away.
I will sing her songs at mid-night,
and fight the slip of the sheets,
but now they are cotton and I have no one to blame but her.
