What YA book are you reading RIGHT NOW?

Just finished The Adoration of Jenna Fox, which is set in the future and is about a girl with amnesia. Actually, it's a lot more complicated than that, but I can't say much without giving half the story away. It's very much a character based book as opposed to a million-miles-an-hour plot book, which is always a plus for me. I love to read futuristic fiction which is about people as much as it is about clever scenarios. It took a while to get into, but once I had, it was addictive stuff. I was silently willing all the customers to go away so I could finish the damn book. I kept looking up and discovering people waiting for me to serve them, who had possibly been waiting for a while with me overly involved in Jenna and medical ethics and identity.

Yesterday I started a book called A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life by Dana Reinhardt, which is about what happens when a 16 year old who is adopted discovers that her birth mother wants to meet her. The adoption subject matter is dealt with very well, and the narrator is wonderful, very funny and likable and smart. A lot like Francesca from Melina Marchetta's Saving Francesca, if anyone's read that.

Why the heck is it taking him so long to finish it? 39 Clues (or whatever the title was) was a disappointment; yet he has this great series with a large following just languishing.

Oh, well. I guess when I write my own Best selling series I can decide for myself how much time to allow between installments.

what YA book are you reading ?

I am finishing up Evernight by Claudia Gray, it is definately a page turner with a lot of twist you'd never expect.

The Explosionist by Jenny Davidson. Good, although almost Dan Brown-Y in character development. Also, may I just say I'm SICK of books which are essentially prologues to further story? I don't want everything to be a trilogy! Even when there is a sequel, can I please just read a real ending?

I am just finishing up the Twilight Series.. I know I am a bit late seems how it's been out for a few years, but my experience with these books was amazing I really just couldn't put them down despite the fact I am so busy. Stephenie Meyer and her team did a great job.

I was reading Inkheart. I'm finished and taking a break for more time to submit my novel. In a bit I'll probably reread Harry 7, then read the third Fableheaven.

I totally agree! I've never seen the Twilight Zone episode, but Logan's Run is there for sure.

Let's see--this week I read Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr, Evernight by Claudia Gray, and Handcuffs by Bethany Griffin. (I sent out a query to my top agent and she now has the partial for a month exclusive, so YA novels seem to be the best way to keep my mind off it! Does anyone else find that?!)

The books were all great reads and I'm new on the forum, but I thought it was pretty cool that all of the authors are members here and post.

I just started reading Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan. The first few pages are all about the appearance of characters and what they're wearing -- looking at it critically I wouldn't have predicted it impressing agents based on the opening, but it's a best seller so it's hard to tell!

I finally got around to The Hunger Games. I held off because I thought it would just be a Battle Royale ripoff but I'm quite impressed so far.

I had to skim through the second half of Just Listen. I just couldn't get into the story. Actually, daredevil me gave it a 2-star review on Amazon.

I'm starting This Lullaby tonight - hopefully it'll be better.

I'm also at the beginning of The Book Thief. It's awesome so far!

^I really liked the Book Thief. I didn't know it was considered YA, though.

I'm on book two of John Peel's Diadem series. That might qualify as more middle grade than YA, actually, but it's a fun story so far.

Yeah, This Lullaby is better, at least it was for me.

Dreamland though, was her best one. I was hooked on her books a few years ago.

...to get Cory Doctorow's book "Little Brother." I love conspiracy theory stuff, so the plot was great for me, and I thought the pacing was fantastic, but my favorite part honestly was the voice. This kid (in 1st person POV) was smart, sarcastic, funny, but kind of dorky too...a great gamer/hacker kind of teenager. I loved him.
