Query exercise from an Agent

This is really smart, and worth practicing, and practicing, and practicing again -- then applying towards trying to write your own hook. This is so damn smart, I really, really wish I'd thought of it.

Colleen Lindsay ran a twitter query contest on her blog in January. That's well worth checking out, too, even though it's over.

You guys game to try it with your own queries? I'll give it a go, if you will.

I don't have a full query yet, but here's my Twitter version:

When a man and his cockroach spirit guide are exiled, they join a search for a missing scientist in hopes of finding a new home on the way.

Crap...this is HARD.

Okay:

Matt's family ghosts ally with his ex, frame him for felony assault, thrusting him into a search for answers to questions he's afraid to ask

(Not precisely grammatical...)

And Polenth's cockroach spirit guide for the win!

I'd forgotten how hard this was:

A young shaman abandons all hope to seek justice for others, then battles an ancient evil to defend those who have given him a new lease on life.

There -- I do have one brain cell working yet tonight...I think

Wow, I actually like that quite a lot, Matera. Sort of elegant and simple, but with potential packed into every word
