When do you put up your Christmas decorations? When is 'too' early? Have you seen a place that already has their decorations up? What do you think we should do to these nutters?

If the Thanksgiving turkey hasn't hit the table yet, it's too early.

As to what you should do about the ones who put 'em up in July (or, worse, leave their decorations out year-round), nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

my mom tries to get my dad to put the decorations up right after thanksgiving but that never happens LOL

haha I always get a kick out of people who leave santa on their roof year-round

I say just cover their house with a giant tablecloth and that would do the job of hiding the year-round santa LOL

I put up my Xmas decorations the 8th of December, which is the day of the immaculate conception according to the church.
Here in Dublun decorations are already up, and I think that's waay too early!

The first Monday in December. Too early is before the Thanksgiving turkey is consumed. One of the local radio stations is already "All Christmas All the Time." I'm not ready!!! The nutters should be locked up!

Usually they go up right after Holloween. Brutal as it may be, my wife detonates a three day Christmas/Holiday bomb of burgandy&gold or like this year silver&blue throughout the entire house.

I honestly think before Thanksgiving is too early, however, I value my life as I sleep at night, therefore, I keep my mouth shut. The only exception to this rule would be if there were a foot or two of snow all the way until the 25th. This was trumped by two weeks of rain followed by blissfull cool 65 degree weather.

There is nothing we can do about the nutters, other than live with them. The difficulty becomes when they reach back into summer and we still must control ourselves; like Christmas in July type activities that the line must be drawn. This is when tar and feather, hogtying, even ousting to the dog house for a few weeks are mild forms of corrective discipline.

I decorate the Saturday following Thanksgiving, and I remove every last bit on New Year's Day (right after breakfast).

Absolutely drives me Willy-Wally-Bonkers to see Christmas decor still up after the middle of January.

I mean, really people, get with the program!!! :rant:

Make it space for me. I have this irrational fear of underwater "things" (not monsters or creatures). For example: if I was swimming in Lake Superior, I would be terrified that one of the shipwrecks might float up under me and I would die of an anxiety attack. It's really quite strange, I know.

Xmas is too early if before Thanksgiving

Xmas music is magical if not overdone and serves to kill my Xmas spirit rather than nurture it if it is played for 3 long months....However Xmas shopping is great if you can do it early, it is so much easier to find things it seems to me....It seems to my paranoid mind that the prices go up at Xmas.

Too early is before Thanksgiving....why does everyone pretend like it doesn't exist? We start the day after Thanksgiving!

People who already have their stuff out should have flaming bags of turkey hurled at their front door!

After Thanksgiving is when Xmas decorations should be put up, in my opinion. It's scary how Christmas products in summer make me feel secure lately...I need to move or something.

Any time before December is too early for me (we Brits don't have Thanksgiving!). Generally, the Christmas decs the last three years have gone up around the time I've come home from uni, and I've done most of the decorating! That's been around the 15th/18th sort of time. They usually come down in the first few days after New Year - and always by the 6th (Epiphany/Twelfth Night). When my mum was a kid, they didn't go up until after 15th December, because that was one of the family's birthdays.

But anyway, they'll probably go up in the first or second week of December, or whenever we can be bothered to pull them out of the loft. I'm just looking forward to a Christmas holiday without books I have to read and essays I have to work on. I'm skipping the Christmas train trip to and from Cardiff with a too-heavy suitcase stuffed with books, clothes, shoes and Christmas presents, and I can't say I'll miss it! Of course, I may have to actually go in to work, but it's different when you don't have to do any at home... Just write... Got to finish a novel by New Year's...

When I was a child, I think I remember them going up 12 days before christmas, then taken down 12 days after christmas. Not sure why, other than the reference to the song '12 days of christmas'.

Christmas, and by that I mean the religious holiday, is actually 12 days long. We never took down our decorations until January 6th, which is the the day that the three kings supposedly brought gifts to baby Jesus. I know some people take down their decorations at 10 am on the 25th of December, but think of how less hectic it would be if people spread Christmas out over 12 days instead of cramming it all into one day!

What is your favourite television show character?

Malcolm Reynolds played by Nathan Fillion who now plays lead in "Castle" I think that the ship captain Malcolm Reynolds was a complex and interesting character who would swing emotionally as needed. Fair and just, combined with firm and sensitive. I feel this character and actor make a mark in history and were ended before their time.

I also have to agree with Dr Who. Especially the 4th Tom Baker and the 9th Christopher Eccleston.
