I figured it out! I had the wrong guy in the lead role! Amazing what that little realization will do to spike enthusiasm.

Of course, now I have to rewrite about 3K from the ground up--but it should be so totally much better for the effort.

Inspired, yes. But I'm really concerned that 37 days isn't enough time to both finish and edit. We'll see. It'll be a fine charge to the deadline.

And yes, I have gone overboard, a little nuts even. But I'm loving it and hope my giftee enjoys the gift of my labors.

Alright, ladies and gents. I have a question. How long does everyone think their piece is going to be? How long is it at present?

Because I think I just realized I'm going to be one of those people that wrote a lot; not like El a lot ('cause he's in his own league), but still a nice amount.

My SS last year clocked in at 2,028 words, which was a little longer than usual for me at the time.

My current, unfinished, first draft is at 2,838. I'm trying to figure out how many scenes it needs before the end. So it may be 4k, it may be 6k, I might trim like crazy and keep to 3k. Who knows. As long as I tell a good story and my giftee enjoys it as much or more than I do, it's good.

I'm at about 7500 right now, but I'm pretty close to the end. One, maybe two more scenes. Then, hopefully some editing will tighten it up. Make it tight. Like a tiger.

I'm at 6800 words. I've got the major rewrite to finish and then another 3-4 scenes, so this will probably top out between 12-15K, I'm thinking.

Maybe. Unless I get another brill idea along the way, of course.

I got sidetracked. Mine is too damn difficult, so I've been working on other stories.

Maybe I'll get it done. Maybe not. If I don't, I'll at least post what I was able to complete.

A genre I don't normally write in, I don't normally write in first either. Has been fun.
