I grew up with nyah nyah nyah (Central NYS), and first heard "neener" when I moved to Bflo. I like neener because it flows off my tongue better. 
You know, I sent my ms off to a beta reader who's from the US and before then I don't think I really realized how many local sayings I'd put into it. I read through hers and found a few sayings that I'd never heard too, it was kinda neet
I would worry too! I haven't had a new project (ready) yet to tell my agent about, but I hope she gives a *little* hand holding and throws some suggestions/ideas out there (but not so many that they scare me...I run away screaming easy lol)

I feel your pain, Soul. I had put a few "Southernisms" I guess into DHtP, and I had a British beta reader who was like, "Um, I'm not really getting these expresions, but it's probably just me!"
And I've done the same when I beta read for my British peeps. Jumper is the one I rememer the most since here it's got a totally different meaning.

HAHA, yeah, I was so upset Tuesday that I even had stomach pains and couldn't eat....srsly, if you know me, you'd know that NEVER happens! I'm a total emotional eater most of the time!
I'm feeling really good about it though. I dove in and wrote a "fantasy" fight scene last night, and then tweaked some other parts.
I haven't actually pitched her the other two YA Contemps I've got 20K each in.
I did ask her about War Within since it takes place in Mexico for the summer. The total anti-culture that Blond's gotten made me paranoid, but she said it should be okay.

I've really noticed lately how hesitant I am to share that I've gotten 3 passes. In the past, I went on the B and B boards and let it all hang out. Why do you think this is different?
What really made me want to be more honest and upfront was rereading the thread with Cindy Pon and Hannah M's pub rejection stats. They were so uplifiting that I realized that I needed to be out there with it! lOL

On a personal note, I just got the typed-up version of my editor's revision notes. Yay! I'll have to change World of Warcraft to a made-up name, because I'd need to add a "TM" to it in the book. Blergh. As a reader, I hate that. Takes me right out of the story. Edits, here I come with renewed vigor!

Thanks, Lily! And yes, I read your passes too, and thanks for the inspriation. I was just paying special attention to Cindy and Hannah since they're my genre. Although, I totally wanna read yours when it comes out. I think your life PERIOD makes a hell of a story! LOL
I know that you guys are here, and I don't know why I felt weird. But anyway, it stands at 3, and the next one I get, I'll be letting it hang out! LOL
I think it adds to the bonding among fellow writers too June. The been there done that, don't give up! mentality. Or giving other writers hope.
Though I think the hesitancy comes from the fact that they are R's. Someone didn't like the story enough to want it. People might read that as your a bad writer (Though anyone who has ever been on sub knows its not at all true!) Its sorta putting your failures right out there for the world to see and that is daunting!!!

My younger sister says "neener, neener, neener" all the time. I thought she just made it up! She used to do it in a taunting nya-nya voice, but as she's gotten older, she also says, "neener" singular at the end of a statement, in a serious manner, to let you know she just handed you your proverbial lunch.

I was kind of careful about sharing my passes and actually I was careful about sharing anything publicly about the submission process. In PRIVATE hoo-boy, I'd tell you all about it. But I think the mentality is, I didn't want the people who did buy my shiny new book to think they were getting anything other than the pretty shiny new book they'd wanted.
But that's just me!

June, I'm glad you're sharing your rejection now. I definitely feel better -- I've gotten three passes too, and we already know that we share one of them. I see Other Lisa's point too, but I'm somewhat anonymous here (as far as such things are possible) because I don't have a blog.

I won't start one until I get a contract -- I'm trying to buy my domain name now (the current lease expires in February) but if I can't get it, I'll use a pen name. As I've said before, when you search my real name now, nude photos come up. They are not me, fortunately, but it's kind of a drag knowing that whenever someone looks for me, that's what they find.

Yeah, that's kind of how I was looking at it, too. But if I (ever) get a sale, you guys are gonna hear about it big time!
I appreciate this line of thinking. On the other hand, I didn't think any less of Stephenie Meyer when she listed her publishing/rejection stats. If anything, I liked her more because of it.

Yes, but Stephanie posted them after she was published. At that point, I couldn't care less about who might have passed on the ms. Neither I, personally, nor the editors considering my work, nor my agent are going to be affected by stats that aren't real time.
I'm quite private about the submissions process, too, but it's also not on the forefront of my mind right now. My current ms is and it's a blessing to have that distraction.
I'm not anonymous on here, either, and I've been pre-emptively cautioned by more than one professional source to not talk too much about the submission process in public places. Which works for me, since I'm somewhat tight-lipped anyway.
I do love hearing and sharing good news, though.

I can see both sides of the story, and I also feel torn between both sides of the story of telling and not telling. All pubs could venture to assume after one has been on sub for a period of time that you have received passes.It would be inevitable. I also see pubbed authors like Hannah and Cindy and soon to be Lily who were pubbing their stats while they still on sub, and it worked out well for them.
It can be said the same thing of the agent game when posting requests and rejections. An agent could see that you've been rejected.

You're not alone. Plus in my case, sharing pass stats was kind of moot since my agent pretty much saved them up and sent them to me right BEFORE "The Call" under the email title: "Don't want to torture you..."
It was actually "nice" (I use the word loooooooooosely.) to see them at that time because they reinforced the fact that I was going with the house that TRULY "got" my book - which is probably the exact reason why my agent chose to send it to me at that time.

One thing I would not do...and I'm sure you guys all know better...I would never post any specific details about a pass publicly...who/why/quote from it. Just not a good idea.

Besides google searches, what are some of the other way people can find where you've been? I'm not as techie as other people, so I wanna be prepared on how pubs could find me.
Kellion, that sucks about your google stuff. Fortunately for me, good teacher stuff, twitter, etc comes up and nothing for 4 pages comes up about these boards.

Google Alerts allows people to see where/when their name - or any other search term they specify - has been posted on the internet. For example, if I type my full name in this post I'll get an e-mail letting me know someone has used it on a website.
Many, of not most, agents, publishers, authors, PR firms, etc. utilize Google Alerts to optimize their networking and publicity as well as seek out general comments about them.

I also think that it's not that far fetched that agents/editors lurk around here too. You never know...(Okay, this is me being paranoid again.)
