I didn't see it. I start work at 8.30am so can't even watch half an hour or so before I leave the house. Remind me, how many Aussie Open finals did the English Tim Henman get to? Hmmm... I think it was none, wasn't it? :wag:

Well I never. I went a payed Murray and the Scots a compliment (kinda) and you bring out the Henman card. That's just evil. Pure and utter evil. e.v.i.l. Henman was okay. he never deserved the amount of stick he got when he played. He was number 4 in the world for a couple of years, won a ton of tournaments and got to the semi or quarter finals at wimbledon every year for a decade. Not that bad, I say. I should have quoted you. We only have Murray and Chris Hoy who ever win anything ever. We're protective of them.

I liked Henman's style of play, and I like how he tried to change it late in his career to better his chances. But the pressure was too enormous. I hope Laura Robson works out, because the British women are a laughing stock. I don't know how they can throw millions into the sport and things just aren't improving. It's sad.

Oooooh, Voice of the Beehive are on the radio. They rocked so much!

ETA: And the All England Club HAVE to stop giving Wimbledon wildcards to useless Brits simply for the virtue of being British. It's emBARRassing. /rant

Yeah, you don't have much luck with sports up there

As a personality, I prefer Hoy than Murray though. I think what Hoy has achieved is remarkable. And Murray always sounds like a 14 year old who's been told off because he hasn't tidied his room.

I enjoyed Henmans style of play too. He had a grace that Federer and Sampras had, but he not only had too much pressure thrust on him by the media, he was up against Sampras in his prime, and that guy was unbeatable. Then Federer came along just as Sampras left. And apparently, Henman only ever lost at wimbledon to the eventualy winner. It just wasn't always in the final

Yep, not watced her play yet, but she does stand a good chance so long as the pressure is piled on her like it is/was with Murray and Henman. She is through to the semi finals of the girls and got beaten in the womens double quarters I think, so she isn't doing to bad for sixteen.

I agree that the All England Club waste those wildcards giving them away to brits who can't win a set in the first round. They really do need to be more selective.

And actualy talking about Chris Hoy and the cycling. I think the LTA funding for tennis is all wrong. They throw the money at the player and tell them to spend it on what they want. I think they should do what the cycling did; make the players come and train at their purpose built centre, have full time coaches on site, tell them what to eat, when to train, when to play, when to exercise, when to rest, when to sleep, what to eat, what to drink; like they do with the cyclists. That's Britain is great at cycling, because they are committed to it.

At least the women's final might be a good match this year. The last couple of years it's been pretty blah.

And Murray can beat Federer. Tsonga's a strange one - he always seems to do really well at the Aussie then disappears for the rest of the year. Like all French players he falls on his arse at Roland Garros, he's never featured much at Wimbledon and I don't know about his record at the US. But I don't like Djokovic; I think he's lazy and doesn't care.

Like most Scots, I guess Murray actually supports Rangers or Celtic, but covers it up by pretending to support Killicrankie Albion, or whatever.

Hmmm... Dunblane. Conservative Church of Scotland kinda place. I'd go for Rangers. Although he did get crabbit once at the French when he was announced as English and Rangers fans tend to not mind.

There's the ultimate test, though. If he knows the words to God Save The Queen he's a Rangers supporter.

But it's a smart move to not get dragged in to it. He's already had nasty comments on messageboards saying it's a shame it wasn't his class Thomas Hamilton shot - he was in the school that day and so was Jamie. All for saying "As long as it's not England" when asked who he wanted to win the last World Cup. Some people are mental...

I've forgiven him for the England comment. He was about seventeen and made an off-the-cuff comment. Anyway, when he's playing one message board I go on measures his Scottishness by how well he's playing. Win a set and he's British. Lose one and he's Scottish. Right now he's really, really British.

I hope he stays really, really British! Although, as jvc said, if he stayed here he'd be as pants as the rest of them, but he showed enough committment to take himself off to Spain. He obviously knew he'd be wasting his time training in the UK. It's a damning inditement of the LTA that Britain's only decent tennis player didn't come through their system.
