He had a nice scheme going, did CHARLES PONZI, till he got sent to the slammer. Bernie Madoff probably learned a thing or two from him.

OREL NEPTKT, a scramble which has just been added to the Nymtoc Top 100 Lowdown Scramble List, soon to be published by Time Magazine. Though it does tie in well with archerjoe's last one: Ms. Neptkt was last seen in The Northwest Angle asking 20 random people if they had ever heard of PERT KELTON; they all said no. One rather gutsy- and prescient- Northwest Angler asked who the heck Marion was in Nym's second clue. The questioner was beaten bloody and now spends days as a KELP KNOTTER at the well-known Northwest Angle branch of Belleview Hospital's Center For Those Who Have Scrambled With Nym. The assault of the questioner seems rather unfair, since Marion Cunningham had a "Mother Kelp."

In case some may be confused by the Rev's tasteful comments on my last scramble, perhaps I should mention that Pert Kelton was the original Alice Kramden on Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. Years later, she played Mrs. Paroo, the mother of "Marian the Librarian" in both the Broadway and film versions of The Music Man. A few years after that, she appeared in one of Gleason's hour-long versions of The Honeymooners, playing the mother of Alice Kramden, the character she had created years earlier.
