How to get started with content?
I'm sorry if this has already been asked. I ran a search and checked back 5 pages.
I've just started a blog. It's only been up for awhile(two days, maybe?), and has no traffic yet. My main question is, how much content should I put up at zero traffic? Obviously, content brings readers, but how much is too much to put up with no traffic? Does it matter? I have an intro, I added a few resource pages, and a regular entry or two. I guess the real question here is, for those readers who do find it, will it matter them whether there has been a lot of traffic already or not when there is a lot of content; or, from the other viewpoint, how likely are they to check back on a blog that didn't have a lot of content when they went there? The answer is probably obvious to everyone else, but I'm too worked up to wrap my head around it.

I'm more likely to read a blog that has a decent amount of content, because that shows you, the blogger, is dedicated and will continue to post. Blogs hold readers by being consistent, so if you've already got proof by the time I wander in that you'll be updating, I'm more likely to check it out later. Also, it gives me a better idea of what you'll be posting about and if I like the range, I'll give it a second look to see what else you've got. Two or three posts isn't all that indicative of your style, but maybe 10 or 15 is. Not saying you need to throw up 10 posts in a day, but you know what I mean.

I knew it couldn't be that complicated, thanks, Katie.

Back off from advertising it until you not only have a good amount of posts up, but a good amount IN RESERVE. It will get to a point where you can't punch out a normal post, so you need stuff in reserve to give you a break.

Thanks, Matt. I'm not really that good at advertising anyway, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

This is information I will certainly need in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for everyone's advice.

Having posts in reserve, as mentioned is a handy thing when you're trying to maintain consistent posting on your blog.
Like many other things, if the content is interesting, readers will begin to show up, and may return. |

Just start posting on a regular schedule. Then visit other blogs with similar interest. If you like them comment on their post. Usually, the blog owner we repay with a courtesy visit. Not only will you build readership but you might build some blogging buddy relationships.
Don't forget to post a link to your blog in your signature. |

Don't even worry about advertising. Making great money from advertising in a blog is a rare occurrence. Focus on selling you. Are you writing a book? Write blog posts related to your book. Want to sell crafts? Start a craft blog.
Let your blog be your marketing widget, not your complete business, and it works out MUCH better.
