The great big Wii thread
If there's been a Wii thread before, it's impossible to search for
Therefore, I shall 'create' the 'keyword' WiiMii so folks can find this thread in the future. Or MiiWii if you get confused. And I'll mention nintendo game console and get that out of the way ![]() I bought my Wii and Wii Fit Plus to help get in shape and have some fun. I've had it for 10 days and I'm hooked ![]() I love the sword fighting (Sports Resort), the flapping chicken game on Wii FitPlus, the bowling is fun with friends. Custom yoga and the strength training keep me motivated. Hula hoop is really getting my legs and abs toned, and no one can beat me in Ski Slalom My balance and timing are improving with all the games related to those two areas. Now if I could find someone to duel me in the sword fight or challenge me to an aerial dog fight, I'd be even happier. Who else has the Wii, what games do you enjoy, and are you burning calories / building strength doing it? Lastly, trying to get your hands on a Wii on sale is a bit crazy, even though it's been around awhile. I managed to get a decent deal at least and am glad I didn't wait until xmas season.

The Wii Fit is awesome!
As for regular games--I also really like Shawn White Snowboarding. Good music, good thigh/butt workout. The kids have almost all the Lego games. And Mariokart is fun, plus you can play against others online. |

You also need the motion plus attachment on your remote...And yes, Sword fighting. It is so kick ass and works your upper arms nicely. Quote:
And I'm tempted by Mario Kart, but I won't get any fitness benefit (other than standing around yelling and leaning ), and I spent hours and hours and hours of my youth with Super Mario Kart. You can never go back (Or so they say)

I used to play Guitar Hero. But then I got a real guitar, taught myself to play and found it a lot more satisfying.
My kids love the Wii. Super Smash Brothers Brawl is their current favorite, but Zelda gets a lot of play too.

How is the Zelda game? I played a little Zelda as a kid (on my gameboy mostly). Is there a little bit of exercise as you slash baddies or is it all pressing buttons mostly?

Do you mean Twilight Princess? I loved this game, but then I've always loved Zelda. I tend to stand up when I play any video game and you might even catch me bouncing around a little, provided I don't know you're looking. I remember having to take breaks from this one because my wrist got sore, but I'm not sure it's much exercise. Dance Dance is fairly decent exercise and fun too, in my opinion. Right now I'm playing Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World, but I'm stuck on a super hard Boss that's driving me mad.

I took step aerobics almost 4 days a week when I was in law school....I never felt better....I may need to get that on the Wii because I really miss it and it is great for the entire body

They have Basic Step and Advanced (haven't tried that one) on the WiiFitPlus. Not sure if there are other 'levels' that get unlocked. It's fun though, b/c I lack rhythm. The rhythm boxing is good too and I love hitting things

Those little computer Miis are back to kicking my butt in the Sword Duel. I'm getting better at timing my blows and finding weak spots, but some of them are out for blood. I made sure to win a few rounds before I called it a night.
Also, I got my mom interested in another Wii Fit game- Basic Step. As for myself, I find combining it with Rhythm Boxing is a good rounded exercise, and if I have time/interest I can repeat them a few times. Anyone have any tips for the sword fighting on Sports Resort? I find if I block way left, butt end up, I can block more of those left sided blows. I'm starting to think sword across my face isn't as useful as sword angled across my face (on the correct side) since there's a limit to the height you can block. And when they go for my feet I'm screwed (which taught me to sweep at their feet, making sure I don't raise the tip up, lol)

I have Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and Mario. Got stuck on Mario and thus gave up... wasn't much of an exercise. You just sit there pressing buttons, and occasionally shake the controller up and down (held sideways to play) to do a special move.
Wii Sports is my favourite. Mmm, bowling! And tennis! I kick arse at the tennis game. I'm getting better at baseball too, though it's kind of difficult. On the Wii Fit, I once got 104% on Medium-Level Jogging. Don't know how I managed that... tried it again, jogging at same speed, and got like 75% or something... *shrug* I like the balance games on Fit. Never tried Fit Plus, or Sports Resort (lack the funds to buy them...). Is the dancing game similar to Dance Dance Revolution? Like, a mat with 4 arrows? If so, I must get that one! I used to play DDR (or at least a game based on DDR) on a friend's PlayStation back in the day. Such a great workout. And I don't suppose they have guitar hero for Wii? I've never played that... although I'm sure I'd still prefer my real guitar... One day, when I have the money, I'm gonna get a bunch of games... one day.

Amazon has a bunch of games used for a fair discount. I even went to gamestop yesterday to compare and ran screaming from the absurd prices over there.
You can find Amazon backed used items under the menu box with 'add to cart' and 'buy with one click' (if they have the item used that is). And then under that is 'more buying options' And there's always craigslist and whatnot I'm plotting what to buy around x-mas, since it will be cold and wintery then.
