1) Finish the publishers edits for Steam Queen
2) Finish the publishers edits for On Angels Wings
3) Plan some promotion type stuff for both books ready for the release date.
4) Actually start work on the first few chapters of one of the three next books I've got planned out :)

September Goals:

I'm currently working on my entry for The Terry Pratchett Prize which has a finish date of 31st December.

So far I'm just over 25,000 words and the min limit is 80,000. Working on 1,000 minimum a day + editing I'm looking to get the finished story emailed off early in December.

By target for September is to get past 50,000 words.

WIP is done!

My September goals:

1) finish and submit the book
2) write and submit article
3) go on vacation

... in that order.

#1 was completed as of last night. 96,000 words. 394 pages. I'm shipping it off to the publisher today.

#2 - started drafting the article this morning.

#3 - hope to get to this either over the weekend or early next week, once I catch up on laundry and bill paying.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I hit 40,000 words for 'Numbered' today! I am so happy and so blessed to be at this point. All of the countless hours of research and editing and late nights typing until my knuckles hurt has paid off! It's down hill from here. I can't believe it. Thank you Jesus!

Wrote my goals up a couple of days ago, but here they are now...

  1. Write 2,000 words of fresh fiction.I’ve been trying to work on some various projects, my novella, a new short story etc. and not getting down any of it. It’s kind of disappointing. I have been doing new poetry but some fiction words would be nice this month, regardless of what project it’s toward.
  2. Edit Playing with the Big Boys and submit to critique group.I need to bite the bullet and do it now. My experience working with Jodi on Somewhere to Pray has left me a bit confident with editing actually and curious to try out some new skills on this short one last time before sending it to be critiqued.
  3. Submit 10 pieces of writing. And here I thought I wasn’t going to set any big goals this month. This one came up on Twitter under the hashtag ‘#10bythen’ and the aim is to submit 10 pieces by October 1. A little bit of insane group goal setting may pull me out of this funk.
  4. Read a novel in a month (cultural goal)10 pages from the end of The City and The City and I want to pick up my reading pace. The next novel will probably be Kalinda Ashton’s The Danger Game. Damn, two crazy goals.
  5. Research Homophobia in Colonial Australia (Political Research Goal). This was a goal last month but seeing as I didn’t do it, except gather some material, I want to get this done.
  6. Discuss Politics and Fiction.Vague goal, I know but I think this will be the theme for a bit on this blog, tackling these topics. There might be some interviews or guest posts, questions, thoughts of my own. I’ll still finish up the ‘writing lifestyles’ series as well.

Mid-month update

My September goals:
1. Write 750 words each day (at 750words.com)
2. Finish the initial exploration of my nonfiction book idea reach the point where I'm ready to make a decision to commit to it or give it up
3. Develop my characters for NaNoWriMo

1. So far, so good.
2. Made some progress here, hoping to get to the commitment moment in the next week or so.
3. Uh. Not so much. I was supposed to work on my NaNoWriMo characters yesterday during a write-in with my brother but we ended up chatting for the whole two hours. I guess we needed to talk!

hmmm - goals...hmmmm

Must work the edits on my proposal, so this puppy can get out on sub in October. I should be able to kick this out over the weekend - but I know more edits will follow.

I'm too excited to look at this than nothing less than the next important step in reaching my dream to be published.

1) finish and submit the book
2) write and submit article
3) go on vacation

... in that order.

Managed to get to #3 on Sunday night, so all September goals are completed! I'm currently in the middle of vacation. One night in a hotel with internet access before I head back to the wilds without electricity, let alone wifi.

Congratulations to all of you who've completed all or part of your goals for the month.

And best of luck to everyone on getting your work done!

So how's everyone doing on their September goals?

My goal was to add 20k words to my MS this month, and I've added 13k. Four days left to hit 7k--I can do this!

My goals for September:

1. Finish final draft of my July marathon novel.
2. Write a play on the 24th that will be produced on the 25th for a celebration of the arts festival.

That is all. Nothing else for September.

1. Found out that the July marathon novel won Best Young Adult Novel Award and is now going on to a publisher for consideration. Finished the edits!

2. Wrote the play on Friday. It was performed at the gala Saturday and was well received!

I have a few days left in the month! Just going to do ONE MORE read through of the Muskoka novel before sending it out!

Come on, October!

Had a slight stall in my September goal, I was aiming for 50,000 but managed to write myself into a corner and had to do some tinkering with several characters backstories to get out of it.

Still I managed 30,000 which I'm happy with, my deadline of December 31st is still doable.
